This role is part of the URMC Finance Decision Support department and involves designing, implementing, and disseminating advanced analytics and data science projects. The Data Scientist will work with key stakeholders to provide analysis and insight for data-driven decision-making, support the development of advanced statistical and mathematical methods including machine learning, and collaborate with team members to solve complex problems and implement scalable analytic solutions.

Essential functions include completing periodic costing, analyzing statistics for cost allocation, performing data integrity tests, reconciling financial statements, acting as a point of contact for cost allocation inquiries, providing cost analysis using StrataJazz software, collaborating on financial modeling, supporting data management processes for costing and reporting tools, evaluating performance reporting protocols, and potentially writing procedures. The role also involves supporting and backing up the Decision Support/Business Intelligence Team on Business Intelligence Analytics projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Data Science, Information Science, or other relevant field and 2 years of relevant experience required
• Strong attention to detail, ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and strong critical thinking skills required
• Strong analytic, qualitative, and quantitative data analysis skills, with demonstrated ability to break down complex problems into phased deliverables required
• Ability to work independently and successfully complete assigned tasks on time with limited oversight required

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to describe data science concepts to lay/nonexpert audiences preferred

Responsibilities

• Designs, implements, and disseminates advanced analytics and data science projects.
• Works with and advises key stakeholders to provide analysis and insight to enable data-driven decision-making.
• Supports the development and evolution of advanced statistical and mathematical methods, including machine learning capabilities.
• Works in partnership with team members to solve complex problems, ensure robust, scalable analytic solutions and implement them efficiently and effectively access the enterprise.
• Completes periodic costing on a timely basis for incorporation into the global and chief reports.
• Develops and maintains detailed analysis of statistics used in cost process to allocate overhead expenses to patient care areas.
• Performs analysis and tests to ascertain integrity of cost data and completes reconciliation of financial statements to management reports.
• Acts as a focal point for all inquiries regarding cost allocation and provides cost analysis using costing software (StrataJazz) in response to requests from all disciplines at the hospitals.
• Collaborates with the URMC Finance Teams in further defining and analyze financial modeling.
• Works with Decision Support System Administration in supporting the data management process, costing and reporting tools, and assists in ensuring that all feeds are fed properly, audited, and integrated into the data bases efficiently and timely.
• Evaluates and becomes familiar with performance reporting protocols and objectives.
• May write or assist in writing procedures that control reporting needs and processes.
• Support and serves as backup for the Decision Support/Business Intelligence Team on Business Intelligence Analytics projects.

Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
