About The Position

Peregrine Advisors is a growing AI and data innovation hub focused on helping government clients solve complex problems and improve outcomes. They work across the entire data lifecycle, including strategy, governance, architecture, engineering, analytics, AI, visualization, and training. The role involves carrying analytical questions for a federal agency from data to a defensible, documented answer, with the flexibility to move to where the hardest problems are as the work evolves. This is a remote position, with a preference for a hybrid arrangement in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Occasional travel to DC is required. The initial engagement requires US citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of applied data science or statistical modeling experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong working command of Python and SQL
  • Working knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and model validation
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data and analytics services on AWS
  • Ability to carry an analysis from question to defensible, documented answer
  • Proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • United States citizenship
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust determination

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with modern data tools and platforms (Amazon Aurora, Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) with Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, or Trino)
  • Experience applying large language models to analytical work (Amazon Bedrock or comparable services)
  • Data-visualization craft, from chart design through dashboards and charting libraries
  • Federal information technology experience
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tooling

Responsibilities

  • Transforming client data (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured) into analytic processes and outcomes for mission-critical initiatives.
  • Framing analytical questions with mission owners and translating them into testable designs.
  • Building analyses and models in Python and SQL on cloud-native data platforms hosted in AWS.
  • Building models for forecasting, classification, risk scoring, and anomaly detection, ensuring they are appropriate for the question, data, and scrutiny required.
  • Designing evaluations to demonstrate model fitness for client environments, including baselines, validation designs, error analysis, documented limits, and verifiable documentation.
  • Building analytical features and datasets from large, complex corpora, including text extraction with Amazon Textract and analysis with foundation models through Amazon Bedrock.
  • Harden one-off notebooks into repeatable, reviewed analytical pipelines.
  • Presenting findings to decision-makers using clear language and impactful visuals.
  • Utilizing AI-assisted analysis, including language models and coding assistants, as standard practice.
  • Adapting to new concepts, systems, and tools as projects evolve and priorities shift.
