About The Position

As a Senior Data Scientist at Walmart, you will leverage advanced analytical techniques and machine learning to transform complex data into actionable business insights. You will identify and source relevant data, develop and validate predictive models, and support scalable deployment to drive strategic decisions. Collaborating across functions, you will translate business challenges into data-driven solutions while mentoring team members. Your expertise in statistical methods, programming, and data visualization will enable clear communication of findings to stakeholders, supporting Walmart’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence. The Marketplace Payments & Financial Services team enhances the Marketplace ecosystem by enabling reliable seller payouts, driving monetization, and expanding financial products while managing financial and compliance risks. The Data Science function develops advanced models and AI/ML capabilities to strengthen the intelligence layer within Payments & Financial Services. This team operates in a fast-paced, high-impact environment focused on innovation and growth. Members collaborate to deliver data-driven solutions that support business objectives and accelerate marketplace success, leveraging expertise in data science, machine learning, and predictive modeling to create scalable, effective financial services.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in data science, machine learning, and predictive modeling using Python and related programming languages.
  • Proficiency in statistical methods and advanced analytical modeling techniques, including model assessment, validation, and tuning.
  • Strong knowledge of data visualization tools and best practices to effectively communicate complex data insights.
  • Understanding of data ecosystems, data quality standards, and data governance principles.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into data-driven solutions and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Experience deploying and scaling analytical models in production environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on business impact and data strategy alignment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and deploy advanced analytical models using programming languages such as Python and SQL.
  • Perform rigorous model validation and tuning to ensure accuracy, robustness, and scalability in production environments.
  • Translate complex business problems into data-driven solutions by applying statistical methods and machine learning techniques.
  • Create clear and impactful data visualizations to communicate insights effectively to stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior team members on analytical methods and best practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align data strategies with business objectives.
