About The Position

Thatch is looking for a Data Scientist to help its Product and Operations teams understand how people use its healthcare benefits platform and identify where it can have the greatest impact. The role owns the data models and metrics behind the product, spanning plan shopping and enrollment through reimbursements and everyday benefit usage. The Data Scientist will investigate user behavior, uncover friction, and design experiments to guide product development. This hands-on position builds the analytics foundation teams rely on, translates complex data into clear recommendations, and helps shape product strategy. The role partners closely with Product and Operations and improves data quality, instrumentation, and self-serve analytics. The data stack includes Snowflake, SQL, and dbt; analytics tools include Omni, Hex, and Python; and development tools include GitHub and CI/CD. AI tools include Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, and others. Direct work in the application layer is not expected, though familiarity with source data and event instrumentation from systems such as Ruby on Rails is helpful.

Requirements

  • Experience using analytics, data science, and experimentation to influence product decisions.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with dbt or similar data transformation tools.
  • Experience building analytical data models and dashboards using BI or visualization tools.
  • Proficiency in Python for analysis, experimentation, or statistical modeling.
  • Strong product judgment and the ability to turn complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Comfort working independently, navigating ambiguity, and partnering across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience influencing product roadmaps and prioritization through data.
  • Experience building experimentation practices, including guardrail metrics, sample-size guidance, or analysis frameworks.
  • Experience analyzing funnels, retention, cohorts, or engagement across complex user journeys.
  • Experience building statistical or machine-learning models for segmentation, forecasting, propensity, or recommendations.
  • Experience in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with source data and event instrumentation from systems such as Ruby on Rails.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product and Operations to answer important questions and inform product priorities.
  • Define and own product metrics, from company-wide success measures to feature-level performance.
  • Analyze user journeys, engagement, and operational data to uncover friction and opportunities.
  • Design and evaluate experiments to measure the impact of product changes.
  • Build and maintain dbt models, metrics, dashboards, and analytical tools that teams rely on.
  • Improve data quality, instrumentation, and self-serve analytics so teams can make confident decisions.
