About The Position

Thomson Reuters Special Services (TRSS) is seeking a Data Scientist to support Federal Law Enforcement customers. Data Scientists at TRSS are responsible for collecting, integrating, resolving, analyzing, modeling, and explaining large datasets to aid in complex investigations. The role requires strong technical skills, independence, creativity, and a mission-oriented approach. TRSS Data Scientists contribute to various Federal Law Enforcement missions, including emerging threat detection, money laundering, fraud, and transnational crime. Additionally, they participate in internal research and development, capability building, skill enhancement, and business development activities like proof-of-concept projects. This specific position is located on US Government customer sites in the New York, NY area and is not a telework position. The company is looking for individuals passionate about applying Data Science skills to support Federal Law Enforcement.

Requirements

  • United States Citizenship, as required to comply with government contract requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance or agency work suitability determination, as required by assignment.
  • Willingness to work full time on-site at U.S. Government customer sites in the Manhattan, NY area. This is not a telework position.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field, such as data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, physical or biological sciences, geographic information systems, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in data management, data analysis, data modeling, data storytelling, programming, SQL, or related technical areas.
  • Practical experience writing, editing, customizing, and executing code in Python.
  • Experience using SQL for data extraction, pipelining, exploration, or analysis.
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential, or regulated data in accordance with applicable policies and requirements.
  • Ability to interface directly with customers at all levels and represent TRSS professionally.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Data Scientists, Subject Matter Expert Analysts, Data Engineers, and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Advanced degrees may be considered as a substitute for experience: a Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for two years of experience, and a PhD or equivalent in a related field may substitute for four years of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Current/Active government work suitability or security clearance.
  • Experience working with law enforcement agencies.
  • Programming skills in multiple languages other than Python (Python is a minimum requirement) including R, Java, or SQL.
  • Experience with software development, including managing collaborative codebases, version control, linting/testing, containerization, and interacting with REST APIs.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, integrate, clean, verify, resolve, and maintain large and complex datasets.
  • Analyze data using statistical methods, graph networks, anomaly detection, spatial analysis, pattern-of-life analysis, sentiment analysis, and related techniques.
  • Develop and apply data models, including risk models, community detection, classification, computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence models.
  • Translate data findings into actionable insights through dashboards, visualizations, briefings, and clear explanations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Write, edit, customize, and execute Python code to support mission requirements.
  • Use SQL for data extraction, pipelining, exploration, and analysis.
  • Work directly with customers to understand problem statements, define project goals, develop methods, and deliver results within required timeframes.
  • Contribute to internal innovation, research and development, shared capabilities, technical skill development, and business development efforts such as proof-of-concept projects and capabilities briefings.
