About The Position

PayPal, Inc. seeks Data Scientist in Chicago, IL. This role involves analyzing and processing large datasets using statistical software, applying sampling techniques or complete enumeration methods for surveys, and comparing models using statistical performance metrics. The Data Scientist will apply mathematical principles or statistical approaches to solve problems in scientific or applied fields, analyze business or financial data, and identify or resolve operational problems by analyzing data. They will also analyze data to identify trends or relationships among variables. The position will work on a broad array of projects including card risk strategies, acquisition, and payment risk strategies. A key aspect of this role is working closely with Stakeholders such as Credit Risk, Product, and Engineering teams to optimize fraud strategies and portfolio performance. The Data Scientist will analyze and assess emerging fraud trends and propose mitigation strategies, maintain and develop Monitoring and Alerting capabilities to monitor the CBMC program health, and simplify insights for key stakeholders. Regular updates on Portfolio Health, highlights, lowlights, and actionable insights will be presented to senior leaders. The role requires full ownership of the portfolio and responsibility for the end-to-end management of Fraud loss and decline rates. Collaboration with different teams is essential for developing strategies for fraud prevention, loss savings, and optimizing transaction declines. Periodic KPI reports summarizing the business units’ risk and control environment for senior management will be prepared. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience with basic analytics (2 years).
  • Experience with fraud risk management in financial services industry (2 years).
  • Experience writing SQL queries to analyze large datasets (2 years).
  • Experience building interactive dashboards and visual reports using Tableau (2 years).
  • Experience using MS Excel and Pivot Tables to create analytical views and summarize data (2 years).
  • Experience using visualization tools to present analytical insights (2 years).
  • Experience in machine learning methods (1 year).
  • Experience in applying data science techniques to solve real-world problems (1 year).
  • Experience using Python to analyze large datasets (1 year).
