About The Position

D.R. Horton is seeking a Data Scientist to help apply advanced analytics, machine learning, and emerging AI capabilities to meaningful business problems. The role explores data, builds and validates models, translates findings into practical recommendations, and helps move successful analytical ideas toward production use. Success means producing analyses and models that influence real decisions, demonstrate business impact, and contribute reusable work. The Data Scientist partners with business subject-matter experts, data engineers, and Forward Deployed Engineers to understand operational needs and develop analytical solutions. The role also creates visualizations and presentations, contributes reusable code and documentation, and participates in cross-functional discovery, architecture, governance, operational-readiness, and continuous-improvement activities. Overnight travel is required.

Requirements

Bachelor's or master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
At least 3 years of data science, advanced analytics, machine learning, or related experience.
Strong Python and SQL skills.
Knowledge of statistics, machine learning, forecasting, and model evaluation.
Working familiarity with LLMs, prompt and context engineering, and unstructured or document data.
Experience working with real-world business data and communicating analytical findings to stakeholders.
Familiarity with source control, reproducible analysis, and production model practices.
Ability to work independently, take ownership, communicate clearly, and deliver results in an evolving environment.
Ability to build trusted relationships across the organization, balancing enterprise standards with business needs and operating realities.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Snowflake, Azure ML, MLflow, LLM and document AI techniques, or open-source ML libraries.
Experience with homebuilding, real estate, construction, pricing, demand, supply chain, finance, or customer analytics.
Experience in homebuilding, real estate, construction, mortgage, title, land development, sales, purchasing, finance, customer care, or another distributed operating business.
Experience working in a large enterprise with complex enterprise environments.
Experience founding, incubating, or building new products, capabilities, or businesses from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Explore and prepare data, develop features, and build analytical and machine learning models for business use cases.
Evaluate models using appropriate technical and business metrics, documenting assumptions and limitations.
Partner with business subject-matter experts to understand processes, decisions, constraints, and success measures.
Collaborate with data engineers and Forward Deployed Engineers to produce analytical logic and models.
Create visualizations, analyses, and presentations that translate technical results into business implications.
Contribute reusable code, features, evaluation approaches, and documentation to improve analytics and AI work across the team.
Represent the function in cross-functional discovery, architecture, governance, operational-readiness, and continuous-improvement activities as appropriate.
Stay current on relevant data, AI, digital, software, and industry practices, applying new capabilities when they provide practical business value.
Identify, shape, and pilot opportunities where data, AI, and digital capabilities can create business value, using an owner's mindset and a bias toward building, testing, and learning quickly.
Conduct business in a professional and ethical manner.
Travel overnight.
