About The Position

The Senior Data Scientist will leverage advanced analytical techniques and domain expertise to identify, develop, and deploy data-driven solutions that support strategic business objectives. This role involves sourcing and validating data, designing predictive models, and ensuring scalable implementation while collaborating with cross-functional teams. The position requires proficiency in programming, statistical methods, and data visualization to translate complex data into actionable insights. The successful candidate will mentor peers, uphold high standards of integrity, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance business performance and customer value. The Walmart Last Mile team leads proactive logistics by utilizing an Automated Recommendation Agent that monitors network health, detects anomalies, diagnoses root causes, and suggests corrective actions. Combining expertise in data science, machine learning, and data visualization, the team transforms complex data into actionable insights. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will develop methods to identify key signals, analyze causal factors, and recommend solutions. The team values analytical rigor, collaboration, and innovation to enhance operational efficiency and deliver impactful business outcomes in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

Extensive experience in data science, including advanced statistical methods and predictive modeling.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL for data analysis and model development.
Strong knowledge of machine learning techniques and model assessment, validation, and deployment.
Expertise in data visualization tools and best practices to effectively communicate insights.
Ability to identify and source relevant business data, ensuring data quality and alignment with business needs.
Understanding of data strategy, governance, and scalable model implementation in production environments.
Proven capability to translate complex business problems into data-driven solutions and actionable recommendations.
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field.
Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field.
5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

Responsibilities

Architect Anomaly Detection: Flag delivery irregularities using time-series forecasting, clustering, or statistical limits.
Automate Root Cause Analysis: Deploy causal inference agents to isolate systemic network issues from localized friction.
Build Prescriptive Engines: Translate insights into action by algorithmically recommending optimal interventions (e.g., re-routing, incentives).
Leverage Forecasting: Predict operational states to establish baselines and simulate the impact of proposed solutions.
Scale Data Operations: Write production-grade Python, SQL, and PySpark to process massive distributed datasets.
Define Technical Roadmap: Advise leadership on modeling trade-offs and drive the strategic path to value.
