Data Scientist

Junction•New York, NY

About The Position

Junction is hiring its first Data Scientist to establish and lead the company’s statistical, modeling, experimentation, and evaluation work across diagnostics, clinical workflows, and AI-enabled product development. The role defines what should be measured, which methods to trust, where modeling can create leverage, and how data-driven work should inform product, clinical, and business decisions. The Data Scientist will own high-priority research and modeling opportunities, set the analytical roadmap and decision framework, and develop rigorous approaches to measurement, experimentation, and causal evaluation. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on work, including developing predictive models and analytical foundations for customer-facing features, validating those systems, and tracking their performance. Working closely with data, product, engineering, data engineering, and leadership teams, the Data Scientist will help move models and analytical systems into reliable production use and establish standards for evaluating data-driven and AI-enabled features. This is not a dashboard or reporting role, nor an ML platform role. The position is fully remote for candidates physically based in GMT or EST time zones; visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

  • Strong track record of leading high-stakes analytical work that influenced product, operational, or business decisions.
  • Deep foundation in statistical inference, experimental design, observational analysis, and model evaluation.
  • Strong Python and/or R skills and experience working with large, messy real-world datasets.
  • Experience building predictive or decision-support models in production or near-production environments.
  • Experience partnering closely with engineering to move work from analysis or prototype into deployed systems.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels, defining the roadmap while also working through details.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to explain methods, findings, and tradeoffs to executives and technical peers.
  • Comfort operating in a startup environment with ambiguity, limited structure, and high ownership.
  • Must be physically based in a GMT or EST time zone.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing, executing, and publishing research studies.
  • Experience with HIPAA, PHI, or other regulatory clinical frameworks.
  • Deep familiarity with modern data tooling and production workflows across warehouses, orchestration, and transformation layers.
  • Experience developing and deploying LLM or AI-powered features in customer-facing products and designing their evaluation frameworks.
  • Expertise working directly with healthcare, diagnostics, lab, wearable, or other clinical data.
  • Practical experience applying causal inference methods such as diff-in-diff, propensity scoring, or instrumental variables.

Responsibilities

  • Own research and modeling work for Junction’s highest-priority data science opportunities across diagnostics, clinical workflows, and AI-enabled product features.
  • Define rigorous frameworks for measurement, experimentation, and causal evaluation.
  • Lead the development of predictive models, segmentation approaches, risk or routing logic, and other statistical systems that inform product and business strategy.
  • Build the analytical foundation for customer-facing features, from model development through validation and performance tracking.
  • Partner with engineering and data engineering to put models and analytical systems into production and ensure they are reliable and useful in real workflows.
  • Establish methodology, quality thresholds, monitoring, and performance review for data-driven and AI-enabled features.
  • Communicate technical findings, tradeoffs, limitations, and implications for action to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Define Junction’s analytical and research roadmap and decision framework for using data to drive product, clinical, and business outcomes.

Benefits

  • Equity, with extended exercise after two years of employment.
  • Company and team offsites.
  • Monthly learning budget of $150 for personal development and productivity.
  • $100 monthly wellness budget.
  • Flexible, remote-first working.
  • $1,000 for home office equipment.
  • Coworking budget.
  • 36 days of paid time off, including bank holidays.
  • Premium healthcare coverage.
  • 4% monthly contribution to pension/401(k).
  • Yearly blood test provided by the company.
  • Enhanced parental, foster, and adoption leave.
