Position Background and Scope Teledyne Brown Engineering has provided software engineering, modeling and simulation, and advanced analytics in support of DoD operational readiness since 2001. We are seeking a Data Scientist w/Power BI experience to join our Advanced Analytics team whose mission is to provide insights and solve problems in support of DOD missions and force readiness. This team provides custom analytic findings and develops, maintains, and delivers decision support capability tools to DOD customers to include administrators and planners at Echelons I, II, and III. The primary objective of the role is to work directly with our customers to identify requirements, convert requirements into functioning prototypes, and support the customer community in their use of the tools. Position Summary Teledyne is seeking a Data Scientist with Power BI experience to support Advanced Analytic efforts within the DOD. The candidate will work with internal subject matter experts, data scientists, business analysts, and data engineers to identify opportunities and to execute and maintain projects of executive interest. The candidate will work with external leadership, managers, and technical staff across DOD organizations and develop technical solutions for business problems. The candidate will participate in the planning and development of automated data tools, dashboards, and other data-oriented tools that support executive-level decisions. This position requires on‑site support at the TBE Huntsville facility. Position will require occasional travel in support of customer requirements. Estimated at 10% of the time.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in: Power BI development (desktop and Online Service with M and Dax expressions)
  • Report solution packaging and deployment via Dev/QA/Production workspaces and/or automated pipelines
  • Master’s Degree preferred (bachelor’s degree acceptable) in computer science, engineering, math, data science, operations research or related field and 0-2 year of relevant experience.
  • Education can be used in lieu of years of experience and vice versa.
  • Power BI development experience is preferred.
  • Superb communication skills with the ability to elicit goals, needs, and outcomes with stakeholders and leadership at all levels across different functions.
  • Successfully works independently with keen attention to detail.
  • Possess, or able to obtain and maintain, a SECRET security clearance.
  • Due to classified work at the facility and related access restrictions, successful applicants must be U.S. citizens and must be able to gain and maintain a DOD Secret level clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with other business intelligence, data visualization, or dashboard development tools (Tableau, Qlik Sense, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Active Directory is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Power BI Report/Visualization Development & Deployment: Design, develop, and deploy dynamic, interactive visual reports, dashboards, and apps using Power BI to enhance data visibility and support business decision making.
  • Research and develop proof-of-concept (PoC) products for client requirements and new capabilities.
  • Create wireframes and mockups for pre-development review and approval.
  • Data Analytics: Solid foundational knowledge of statistical analysis techniques (regression, hypothesis testing, statistical inference, etc.).
  • Advanced data visualization experience to clearly communicate relationships among complex data.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in analytics, such as Anaconda, Python, or R.
  • Significant development experience with Power BI.
  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support for Power BI reports, dashboards, apps, and data flows.
  • Monitor and resolve issues related to Power BI solutions, ensuring their reliability, functionality, and performance.
  • Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements, gather and document user needs, and translate these into technical specifications.
  • Conduct user training and create documentation to support user adoption and proper usage of developed products.
  • Perform live or recorded product demonstration for various audience groups.
  • Security, Compliance, & Best Practices: Ensure developed products adhere to agency and government security standards, compliance policies, and best practices for Power BI development.
  • Stay up to date on Power Platform updates, security enhancements, and compliance protocols, making recommendations to enhance solutions.
  • Data Integration & Management: Integrate Power BI solutions with other M365 services, including SharePoint, Teams, and external databases as needed.
  • Manage and maintain data sources, connections, and permissions to ensure secure, seamless data access and integration.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve data flows, enhance solution performance, and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Experiment with new features and updates within the Power Platform suite to propose and implement innovative solutions.
