About The Position

DMI, LLC is seeking a Data Scientist - Mid-Level to join us. The Mid-Level Data Scientist builds, trains, and deploys machine learning models and AI-driven analytical tools in support of NTSB's enterprise data analytics program. This role works within NTSB's Azure AI environment, contributing to platforms including CAROL AI, Microsoft Fabric, and custom analytics solutions that support transportation safety investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 3 to 10 years of experience in a data science or machine learning role
  • Fluency in Python and R, plus at least one additional language such as Java or C#
  • Hands-on experience with Azure AI services, including Azure ML and Azure Cognitive Search
  • Proficiency in software engineering lifecycle tools: git, debugging, testing, CI/CD, and model retraining
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain and complete a Public Trust background investigation and/or a Public Trust clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure OpenAI, Azure Cognitive Services, or Azure AI Foundry
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, or Apache Spark
  • Experience with GPU-accelerated computing frameworks
  • Background in federal government or safety-critical analytics environments
  • Eight additional years of relevant experience beyond the minimum may substitute for the required degree.
  • Six additional years combined with a qualifying certification may also substitute.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, train, and deploy machine learning models using Python, R, and Azure Machine Learning (Azure ML)
  • Build and maintain AI-enabled search and recommendation tools using Azure AI services, including Azure Cognitive Search and Azure OpenAI
  • Apply software engineering lifecycle practices including source control (git), CI/CD pipelines, model retraining workflows, and Jenkins-based deployment
  • Write production-quality code in Python, R, C#, or Java, including GPU-accelerated workloads where applicable
  • Analyze structured and unstructured datasets to identify patterns, anomalies, and trends supporting safety investigations
  • Collaborate with data engineers to consume optimized data pipelines built on Microsoft Fabric and Apache Spark
  • Produce written documentation of model methodologies, assumptions, and metrics
  • Support evaluation and improvement of AI platform and other investigative analytics tools
