About The Position

Birch Hill is recruiting summer and full-year interns to join Canada’s premier Private Equity Data Science & Strategy team, starting May 2027. We are highly analytical with diverse backgrounds in consulting, engineering, math, and science. Our team is growing quickly, and we are looking for motivated, intelligent, curious candidates who are interested in data, business strategy, and solving complex problems. The internship offers students the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects. Successful candidates will utilize a variety of tools and skillsets to solve problems and to support the strategic objectives of Birch Hill’s portfolio companies. Students will work with the team to identify areas of improvement within processes and systems and use analytical skills to produce high-quality analyses. They will also support implementation of their analyses, including working directly with investment professionals and senior executives.

Requirements

Enrolled in a program in business, sciences, math, statistics and/or engineering.
Ability to analytically approach and solve broad and challenging problems.
Curiosity, a desire to be challenged, and the aspiration to continually learn.
Strong communications skills to articulate complex analyses clearly to a variety of stakeholders.
Proficiency in data manipulation languages like SQL or Python.
Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

Relevant work experience in data analytics, consulting, or finance is an asset.
Previous experience with databases, business intelligence tools, ETL pipelines, and/or machine learning systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

Utilize a variety of tools and skillsets to solve problems and to support the strategic objectives of Birch Hill’s portfolio companies.
Identify areas of improvement within processes and systems.
Use analytical skills to produce high-quality analyses.
Support implementation of analyses, including working directly with investment professionals and senior executives.
Partner with portfolio companies as not only technical leaders, but also strategic leaders.
Assess and screen companies using alternative data sources.
Optimize information flow around our deal pipeline.
Complete market mapping and customer analytics to inform the investment thesis.
