About The Position

DeepLearning.AI is seeking a short-term Data Science Consultant to work directly with their COO and business unit leaders. The company has a significant amount of data from various sources (learning platform, Stripe, HubSpot, PostHog, customer.io, website analytics, NPS surveys) and a strong engineering capacity. The consultant will be responsible for building a robust analytical layer to translate business questions into metrics, analyze data, and establish a clean, durable data foundation. This role requires generating value quickly and iteratively building the architecture against real business questions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a data scientist.
  • Strong analytical instinct.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous business questions into well-defined metrics.
  • Judgment to know which questions are worth answering.
  • AI-native builder, leveraging latest tools and AI-assisted coding.
  • Hands-on with SQL and Python.
  • Comfortable doing real EDA.
  • Enough engineering chops to collaborate with data eng team and make sound calls about data modeling, naming, and transformation layer design.
  • Comfortable asking questions, making suggestions and pushing back in executive meetings.
  • Practical bias - natural tendency to close projects and answer questions iteratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with platforms and data sources such as Stripe, HubSpot, PostHog, customer.io, Google Analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Partner and work closely with the COO and data team on data analysis and modeling.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into well-defined metrics.
  • Perform Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) to answer business questions, including the 'why' behind them.
  • Ship dashboards or analyses for stakeholders.
  • Build out data models, naming conventions, and pipeline pieces to support metrics durably.
  • Collaborate with the data engineering team on data modeling, naming, and transformation layer design.
  • Ask questions, make suggestions, and push back in executive meetings.
  • Iteratively answer questions and close projects.
