Department Overview We believe our well coordinated clinical care contributes to our outcomes that are among the best in the country. Work as part of team that includes Cancer and Blood Disorder physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nursing, social work, physical therapy, nutrition, child life, clinic assistants and researchers. The department at Children's of Minnesota provides care for children of all ages with all types of malignancies including brain tumors, solid tumors, and leukemia; and blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, and anemia. As the largest provider of services for children with cancer and bleeding disorders in the region, the Cancer and Blood Disorders program focuses on providing well-coordinated knowledge-driven clinical care. We participate in national and international research and are leaders in research on supportive care and quality of life for children with cancer and bleeding disorders. Position Summary Collect and submit reliable data to national registries. This is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation and entry into the databases of all eligible cases for the hospital. Works closely with the members of the Cancer and Blood Disorder team to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified. Support management and clinical staff with information for decision making, strategy development, assessment of health care quality, and clinical research, queries clinical databases for system-wide requests, displays data, interprets results and develops ongoing formats which meet user needs, uses computer-based tools to ensure data quality and integrity

Requirements

  • Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required.
  • PC experience required.
  • Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support and be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers.
  • Computer and Internet experience required - familiarity and comfort with technology to automate workflow and use of MS Office products is essential for success in this position to automate work flow (Word and Excel - required; PowerPoint and Access - preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
  • Current credentials of or eligible for RHIA, RHIT
  • Experience in cancer care/terminology strongly preferred
  • Previous experience with coding, nomenclatures, casemix analysis and database query tools preferred
  • Database data entry and basic statistical knowledge preferred.
  • Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.
