About The Position

Worldwide Events Group is seeking an experienced consultant to independently review its data protection and AI governance arrangements and establish practical, proportionate governance for a global business. The consultant will help identify what is working, where improvements are needed, and how to make data protection and AI governance accessible to employees. The aim is to provide clear guardrails for responsible everyday use of data, technology and AI, including Microsoft 365, Copilot, third-party AI tools and internally developed AI agents. The consultant will provide independent expertise while working with stakeholders across the COO Office & Transformation, IT, HR and AI implementation activity. The engagement covers assessment of current arrangements, prioritised remediation, review and improvement of policies and processes, and establishment and testing of workable governance practices. It will also include an independent conclusion on whether a formal DPO is legally required and recommendations for the ongoing governance model and level of specialist support. This is a remote, worldwide engagement. Its duration is to be agreed, and the start date is ASAP. The day rate is competitive and depends on experience.

Requirements

A relevant professional data protection or privacy qualification, supported by substantial practical experience.
Expertise in data protection and privacy governance, including the ability to independently assess current arrangements, identify priorities and recommend a clear, proportionate way forward.
Experience working with globally operating businesses and practical understanding of data protection considerations involving data handling, suppliers and international operations.
Practical expertise in Microsoft 365 and Copilot, including associated data protection, privacy and AI governance considerations within an organisation.
Expertise in AI governance, including generative AI, third-party AI tools, enterprise integrations and internally developed AI agents.
Proven experience reviewing how governance works in practice and turning findings into straightforward processes and usable guidance.
Ability to translate technically or legally complex subjects into clear, pragmatic guidance for day-to-day work.
A practical, enabling approach that establishes sensible guardrails without unnecessary process.
Confidence to lead and challenge the organisation, form an independent professional view and support well-informed decisions.
Ability to work comfortably with technical and non-technical stakeholders, creating clarity and bringing people along.

Responsibilities

Conduct an independent current-state assessment of data protection and AI governance arrangements and identify immediate and priority gaps.
Complete a full gap assessment and prioritised remediation plan, distinguishing legal requirements, regulatory good practice and proportionate organisational controls.
Review and, where appropriate, simplify and strengthen existing policies, procedures, privacy documentation, tools register, AI assessment and DPIA approach.
Review how data protection and AI governance work in practice, identify unnecessary complexity, and make processes easier to understand and follow.
Establish a practical AI and technology governance process covering third-party technology and AI tools, Microsoft 365 and Copilot, integrations and internally developed AI agents.
Create proportionate approaches to assessment, approval, documentation and escalation, with clear guardrails for everyday decision-making.
Provide an independent conclusion on whether a formal DPO is legally required and recommend an ongoing data protection governance model and appropriate specialist support.
Test the governance approach against real-world use cases to ensure it is practical and workable.
Work with stakeholders across the COO Office & Transformation, IT, HR and AI implementation activity, providing independent expertise and clear guidance.
