Data Platform Engineer

Clinton Health Access Initiative,

About The Position

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries. CHAI works with governments to support them and the private sector in creating and sustaining high-quality health systems. CHAI is looking for a hands-on builder to design, develop, and ship internal platforms that transform how the organization works across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The organization has found most off-the-shelf tools lacking and has committed to building first-class tools for its team, using cutting-edge technology, that will benefit the entire sector. Recent examples include building a data foundation (Data warehouse, MCP, Superset) and creating a finance and operations dashboard (think modern ERP) customized to CHAI's teams. These tools will allow teams to more effectively save lives and reduce the burden of disease across the 35 countries in which CHAI works. This role reports to the Head of Finance Systems and AI Transformation. The ideal candidate is an exceptional builder with strong organizational instincts, who knows how to write code and use AI to scope and ship quickly. They care about solving real problems and want to work somewhere their tools contribute to the larger mission of saving lives. The base location is flexible; candidates can be based in any of the geographies that CHAI operates in, subject to work authorization and necessary approvals.

  • Ownership. The ability to take uncertainty and drive towards success.
  • Genuine commitment to CHAI’s mission and the operating realities of a global health organization working in resource-constrained, cross-cultural contexts.
  • Familiarity with technical tools used at CHAI: DBT, Superset, Javascript, React, Supabase, Python, Typescript, PostgreSQL.
  • Experience applying agentic tooling to engineering workflows.

  • Build-out and productionize our current data products (workflows, data warehouses, reporting)
  • Create AI-enabled systems that are reliable, maintainable, secure, cost-efficient, and easy for internal teams to adopt as we look to significantly scale-up in the next two years
  • Collaborate with IT, Operations, and Program teams to ensure tools fit how people actually work, integrate with existing systems, and meet modern security standards
