About The Position

TypeSafe is an AI lab developing System One Models, combining the reasoning of large language models with the reliability of code. The company is a small team backed by an $870M Series A led by a16z.

The Data Platform Engineer will build and own data infrastructure and internal tooling supporting engineering, analytics, and business teams. The role spans data ingestion, storage, transformations, and access controls, with a focus on making data reliable and easy to use. The position is based fully in person at TypeSafe’s San Francisco office near Embarcadero station. Requirements

• Experience in data engineering, infrastructure, or backend systems.
• Familiarity with Kafka, ClickHouse, a data orchestrator such as Dagster or Airflow, and similar technologies.
• Comfort with SQL, data transformations, and permissioning.
• Understanding of how data infrastructure supports BI and analytics.
• Ability to take ownership, collaborate well, and adapt to changing requirements.
• Enthusiasm for TypeSafe’s mission and working on a small team.

Nice To Haves

• Experience building and operating large-scale production data systems.
• Experience building internal tools and supporting analytics.
• Experience working on a team with strong engineering standards.
• Familiarity with AI and its practical applications.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines, infrastructure, and internal tools.
• Support data transformations, analytical models, and BI workflows.
• Manage data access and permissioning.
• Improve reliability, performance, and data quality.
• Work with teams across the company to understand and support their data needs.
