Data Platform Engineer
About The Position
Quizlet is a leading learning platform with over 60 million users, powering over 1 billion learning interactions weekly. We utilize cognitive science and machine learning to personalize the learning experience. The AI & Data Platform team is responsible for building the foundational systems that support all data and machine learning initiatives at Quizlet. This team focuses on creating scalable, reliable, and efficient systems to enable the development and deployment of AI-driven products, prioritizing operational excellence and leveraging DataOps and MLOps technologies. This role is for Data Platform Engineers across multiple levels (Staff - Principal Engineer), with leveling determined during the interview process. The engineer will design and build infrastructure for large-scale data processing and machine learning workflows, collaborating with Data Science, ML Engineering, and Product teams. Success is measured by platform reliability, developer experience, and adoption.
Requirements
- Experience building and operating data or ML platforms in production
- Strong background in distributed systems, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure
- Familiarity with tools such as Airflow, dbt, GCP, Kubernetes, or similar
- Track record of improving system reliability and efficiency
- Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain data and ML infrastructure to support model training, deployment, and monitoring
- Design scalable data pipelines and systems (batch and real-time)
- Improve platform usability, tooling, and developer efficiency
- Drive reliability, observability, and automation across the platform
- Partner cross-functionally to define and deliver data solutions
- Contribute to technical design, code quality, and best practices
