Data Platform Architect

Gravie
•$170,250 - $227,000

About The Position

Gravie is seeking a hands-on, senior individual contributor to lead the architectural design of its next-generation operational data platform as part of the company’s data and digital transformation. The role defines the platform’s technical blueprint and brings architectural depth, technical judgment, and design stewardship to the work. The platform will unify data from internal operational systems, vendors, and partners, evolving beyond traditional batch processing and point-to-point integrations toward a near-real-time data ecosystem. The architect will collaborate with Product Engineers, Data Engineers, Data Operations teams, and partner teams to design streaming architectures, establish canonical models and data contracts, and address governance, security, compliance, and technology selection. The role also provides architectural leadership and mentorship and supports practical AI use cases.

Requirements

  • 8–15 years of experience architecting and operating large-scale data integrations, streaming pipelines, and operational data movement in a cloud environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kafka, Flink, and Debezium or similar technologies.
  • Understanding of stateful stream processing and exactly-once delivery semantics.
  • Extensive experience with AWS.
  • Deep understanding of data observability concepts, including freshness, distribution, volume, schema, and lineage, and how to apply them to real-time healthcare streams.
  • Prior healthcare experience and deep understanding of HIPAA, ePHI, and secure data exchange and access requirements with external parties.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Ability to independently turn complex, ambiguous problems into concrete, measurable solutions aligned with business goals.
  • Ability to drive results through influence and collaboration and translate technical concepts for business stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Previous experience at a venture-backed startup company.

Nice To Haves

  • Foundational knowledge of JVM-based languages such as Java.

Responsibilities

  • Design the end-to-end architecture for the operational data platform, including ingestion and processing of data streams.
  • Collaborate with partner teams to define and govern reference architectures and durable, versioned canonical data models, including claims and enrollment models, for internal and external use.
  • Define data contract standards and processes, and work with partner teams to socialize and activate them.
  • Establish and enforce data governance frameworks and internal and external access controls, including role-based access control, with HIPAA compliance needs in mind.
  • Lead evaluation and selection of real-time data technologies that align with Gravie’s compliance needs and strategic direction.
  • Serve as the architectural authority for complex design decisions; identify tradeoffs involving time, cost, and complexity, and proactively identify architectural risks.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentorship to Data Producer and Consumer teams.
  • Help advance Gravie’s data platform innovation and identify practical AI use cases.
  • Use data reliability OKRs to influence change in applying data observability to real-time healthcare streams.
