About The Position

Texas Children’s Hospital has an opening for a Data Operations Engineer position in Houston, Texas. This role involves analyzing and coordinating the design of new and existing applications to support clinical business operations, collaborating with stakeholders to identify data and analytics needs, managing data integrity, and facilitating improvements through technology. The engineer will also communicate and collaborate with the IS Data and Analytics team for testing and approvals, develop new processes, serve as a subject matter expert, and participate in committees as an Ambulatory Administration Data Representative.

Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree, or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Business or Technology field or another closely related field and 60 months of experience as a Data Operations Engineer or related occupation.
  • Master’s degree, or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Business or Technology field or another closely related field and 36 months of experience as a Data Operations Engineer or related occupation.
  • Any Combination of Experience, Training or Education.
  • 60 (36) months of experience in information systems management.
  • 60 (36) months of experience in physician practice management, and/or other related operational or clinical field.
  • 12 (12) months of experience with data-driven research in a medical/hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and coordinates the designing of new & existing applications to support clinical business operations.
  • Creates and refines data visualization tools to empower Operational users to more effectively utilize data in their daily practice management.
  • Coordinates new development ensuring consistency and integration with existing information data structure.
  • Leads business analysis, information acquisition, data access design, archive and recovery strategy, security, and change management.
  • Develops, designs, and modifies technical specifications to address business problems, needs, and opportunities.
  • Collaborates with operational leaders and clinicians to optimize systems, clarify needs, prioritize requests, recommend technology design, and implement innovative system enhancements.
  • Collaborates with TCH internal core stakeholders to identify data and analytics application systems and process needs.
  • Acts as liaison between department(s) and the IS data and analytics team for troubleshooting, immediate support, and issue resolution.
  • Analyzes data and prepares reports for Hospital leadership and department stakeholders on a monthly, quarterly, annual or as-needed basis.
  • Manages security access for department-specific dashboards.
  • Validates department data from ingestion to production, adopts Enterprise Integration and Reporting Standards, and monitors data processes to ensure quality and lead issue resolution.
  • Analyzes system problems and modifications and manages data integrity.
  • Analyzes clinical and business use of existing systems to identify problems and define system improvements.
  • Creates and implements data management strategy, develops validation mechanisms for data quality and accuracy at point of entry, and performs regular data audits using continuous quality improvement practices.
  • Communicates/Collaborates with IS Data and Analytics team to manage testing and approval of updates/upgrades and modifications.
  • Reviews functionality in test environment before migration to production, in partnership with IS data and analytics team.
  • Serves as the department's point of contact for communications with IS Help Desk and Analysts, including submission of service requests.
  • Participates in and/or leads pilots or application testing and may prepare and facilitate training classes for end users.
  • Develops new processes to address identified needs and assures completion of new processes.
  • Collaborates with end users, other departments, and IS data and reporting team to develop, review, document, and implement new processes including post-action plan metrics.
  • Serves as subject matter, process expert and advisor in core department functional areas of TCH.
  • Identifies end users, establishes regular communication, and shares best practices regarding data and visualizations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applications, data models, and shared values for integrated report writing.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for all source systems and workflows, both clinical and operational.
  • Facilitates improvements and actively seeks ways to use technology to improve productivity and business processes.
  • Provides functional support in optimizing solutions aligned with regulatory agencies and TCH strategic plan.
  • Develops, designs, and modifies functional specifications and business process maps and works with IS team to test and correct programs.
  • Participates in committees as an Ambulatory Administration Data Representative.
  • Represents operational department as participating member of designated committees, acts as technical liaison between operational and technical leaders and communicates committee goals, problems and solutions to Ambulatory leaders.
