EXL•New York, NY
•$130,000 - $170,000

About The Position

We are looking for a skilled Data Modeller to join the data team and play a key role in designing and implementing structured data models across the medallion architecture, with a primary focus on the Silver (cleansed/conformed) and Gold (business-ready/aggregated) layers. The role works closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure data is modelled accurately and consistently in ways that drive organisational value. The position also calls for cross-functional leadership in advancing EXL Unified architecture, design, and process; building productive partnerships with functional teams and partners to deliver enterprise digital solutions; and proactively engaging in or leading enterprise digital initiatives to improve usage, stability, and business value.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Data Modeller, Data Architect, or in a similar role within a modern data platform environment.
  • Strong understanding of medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold layering) and the purpose of each layer.
  • Hands-on experience with source-to-target mapping and data lineage documentation.
  • Proficiency in dimensional modelling (star schema, snowflake schema) and normalised/denormalised design approaches.
  • Experience with data modelling tools such as erwin, dbt, Dataedo, or similar.
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, or BigQuery.
  • Strong SQL skills for validating and prototyping data structures and transformations.
  • Ability to engage with technical teams and business stakeholders to gather and translate requirements.
  • Good documentation skills, including producing mapping specifications, data dictionaries, and model diagrams.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with dbt for managing Silver/Gold transformations and model documentation.
  • Exposure to data governance frameworks or tools such as Collibra, Alation, or Purview.
  • Familiarity with Delta Lake or similar open table formats.
  • Understanding of data mesh or domain-oriented data modelling principles.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain data models for the Silver layer and Gold layer.
  • Create and manage source-to-target mapping documents to define data lineage from raw ingestion through consumption layers.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to translate business requirements into logical and physical data models.
  • Define and enforce data standards, naming conventions, and modelling best practices across the data platform.
  • Work with business and analytics teams to understand reporting and analytical requirements and reflect them in Gold-layer structures.
  • Identify and resolve data quality, consistency, and integrity issues during modelling and mapping exercises.
  • Document data models, transformation rules, and mapping specifications to ensure traceability and auditability.
  • Participate in data governance initiatives, supporting metadata management and data cataloguing efforts.
  • Review and validate transformation logic applied between Bronze → Silver and Silver → Gold layers.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the overall data architecture and medallion framework.
  • Provide critical thought leadership and cross-functional leadership across GT functions in advancing EXL Unified architecture, design, and process.
  • Establish productive partnerships with functional teams and partners in the delivery of enterprise digital solutions.
  • Proactively engage in or lead enterprise digital initiatives to improve usage, stability, and business value.
