About The Position

The Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology (LSP) is seeking a Data Manager to join their team at Harvard Medical School (HMS). The LSP is a research unit focused on the fundamental science of discovering new therapeutics and diagnostics, utilizing a team science approach that combines lab experimentation, data science, and artificial intelligence to generate vast amounts of data. They are committed to an open science approach, making their data accessible globally. This role involves managing scientific data, maintaining scientific websites, contributing to grant and manuscript writing, and training lab members. The Data Manager will work with a senior data manager and the director of software engineering, reporting to a Senior Scientific Program Manager and collaborating with HMS faculty, including LSP Director Prof. Peter Sorger. This is an in-person position with the potential for a hybrid schedule.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
• A biology and/or information science background.
• Strong commitment to scientific data management.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Understanding of laboratory processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort learning new skills; growth mindset.
• Strong interest in building relationships and managing by influence within a dynamic academic environment.
• Ability to manage multiple competing and shifting priorities.
• Comfort handling ambiguity.

Nice To Haves

• Software scripting and coding skills.
• Previous experience in a biomedical research environment.
• Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
• Master’s degree in library/information science or equivalent is a plus.
• Knowledge and passion for open science, FAIR research principles, and research data management.
• Experience in an academic library or biomedical research setting.
• Knowledge of web development and content management.

Responsibilities

• Curating scientific data, including clinical data elements, biospecimen and experimental metadata, and raw and derived experimental data.
• Managing data on institutional and cloud storage resources.
• Maintaining a range of scientific websites to explain the LSP mission and provide access to specific data.
• Contributing to grant and manuscript writing.
• Participating in training lab members.
• Attending scientific conferences.
• Managing day-to-day tasks and exhibiting sound judgment.
• Consulting the team on more complex scenarios.
