About The Position

This role offers an opportunity to leverage data and analytics to significantly impact AXIS's Reserving function. The Data Insights Lead will transform complex data into clear, trusted insights, enabling the Reserving team to better understand trends, explain variances, and make informed decisions. The position involves improving access to consistent and timely data, highlighting key trends, and reducing manual effort in reserving analysis. The role will shape the evolution of reserving analytics at AXIS by building practical insight capabilities for portfolio movement analysis, cross-business comparisons, key indicator monitoring, and supporting discussions with senior stakeholders. Collaboration with Reserving, Finance, Actuarial, Claims, Underwriting, and Data & Analytics teams is crucial to translate needs into dashboards, datasets, self-service tools, and repeatable insight products. The role also involves partnering with technical teams to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and suitability for decision-making.

Requirements

  • Experience in data, analytics, actuarial, finance, or a related insurance or reinsurance role.
  • Experience helping to design, improve, or deliver data and analytics solutions for business users.
  • A deep understanding of insurance or reinsurance data, including how claims, policy, exposure, premium, underwriting, finance, and actuarial information can be used to support analysis.
  • The ability to lead through influence, work with technical teams, and bring people together around a shared outcome.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to make complex data and analysis clear, practical, and actionable.
  • Experience creating dashboards, datasets, visualizations, or self-service tools that help business users understand performance, trends, and drivers.
  • Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies, and an interest in applying them to real business problems in a practical and responsible way.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with reserving, actuarial, finance, claims, underwriting, or performance reporting teams.
  • Some knowledge of reserving processes, actuarial triangles, loss development, claims trends, or financial close reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI and other visualization platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Be a Trusted Partner to the Reserving Team: Build strong relationships with the Reserving team and wider stakeholders, understanding their processes, challenges, priorities, and decision-making needs. Help define the reserving analytics roadmap to ensure prioritized work delivers clear value.
  • Create Better Data Products and Insight Tools: Design and deliver dashboards, datasets, and self-service tools for clearer views of loss development, claims experience, exposure changes, prior-year development, and other key indicators. Replace static reporting with interactive solutions for trend exploration, result comparison, assumption testing, and deeper review identification. Help identify, explain, and monitor reserve signals like AvE, PYD, claims emergence, large loss activity, exposure/mix changes, and reserve diagnostics.
  • Explore Modern Analytics and AI: Collaborate with actuarial, data science, and AI colleagues to explore modern analytics for reserving analysis, scenario exploration, anomaly detection, and explanation of key drivers. Promote practical and responsible use of AI and analytics to improve speed, transparency, and confidence while maintaining governance and actuarial judgment.
  • Inspire Through Insight: Create clear, intuitive visualizations to help colleagues understand reserving movements, emerging trends, portfolio changes, and areas of uncertainty. Improve communication of reserving insights to be concise, consistent, and useful for actuarial, finance, management, and business discussions.
  • Set Standards for Excellence: Help define clear standards for reserving metrics, data definitions, reporting, reconciliation, and interpretation of key indicators. Support high-quality, governed outputs aligned with enterprise data standards, actuarial controls, and financial reporting needs.
  • Collaborate Across D&A: Partner with architecture, engineering, governance, finance, actuarial, claims, and underwriting colleagues to ensure reserving needs are considered from data foundation to insight experience. Seek opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual data wrangling, and build reusable insight capabilities.
