The Data Governance Leader will lead the firm’s Data Governance, Data Quality, and Metadata Management functions, ensuring data is trusted, well-managed, and aligned with business priorities. Reporting to the Chief Data Officer, this role will partner across Business, Technology, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Information Security. This individual will define and execute the enterprise data governance strategy, operating model, policies, and stewardship framework while establishing accountability for data ownership, quality, metadata, lineage, and business definitions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Management, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience leading Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, or related functions within financial services or similarly regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing enterprise governance operating models, policies, standards, and stewardship programs.
  • Experience implementing and maturing Data Quality and Metadata Management capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of governance technologies, metadata management, data catalogs, lineage, and data quality platforms.
  • Proven ability to partner with and influence senior Business, Technology, Risk, Compliance, and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience leading organizational change, governance adoption, and high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement the firm’s enterprise Data Governance strategy, operating model, policies, standards, and framework.
  • Establish accountability for data ownership, stewardship, governance processes, and decision-making.
  • Lead governance forums to prioritize initiatives and resolve cross-functional data issues.
  • Embed governance into business processes, solution delivery, and operational workflows.
  • Establish metrics and executive reporting to measure governance adoption and effectiveness.
  • Promote a culture where data is managed as a strategic business asset.
  • Define and implement enterprise Data Quality standards, controls, and processes.
  • Establish monitoring and measurement practices for critical business data.
  • Oversee data quality scorecards, issue management, remediation, and performance reporting.
  • Partner with Business and Technology teams to prioritize and resolve data quality issues.
  • Drive measurable improvements in data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability.
  • Define the enterprise Metadata Management strategy, standards, and operating model.
  • Establish standards for business glossaries, critical data elements, lineage, classifications, and metadata.
  • Oversee data catalog and metadata capabilities that improve data discoverability and transparency.
  • Promote consistent business definitions, lineage, and understanding of critical data assets.
  • Ensure metadata supports regulatory compliance, analytics, reporting, and AI initiatives.
  • Partner across Business, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Information Security, and Internal Audit to ensure governance supports regulatory and business requirements.
  • Support data privacy, security, retention, and information management objectives.
  • Evolve governance capabilities to address changing business and regulatory needs.
  • Establish governance standards that support trusted, responsible, and compliant use of data for AI initiatives.
  • Build and develop a high-performing Data Governance, Data Quality, and Metadata Management team.
  • Foster accountability, collaboration, business partnership, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee governance tools, vendors, and strategic initiatives while aligning resources with enterprise priorities.
  • Promote data literacy and stewardship through education and organizational engagement.
