About The Position

Hitachi Vantara is seeking a knowledgeable data governance professional to mature its existing data governance practices. This role involves deeper engagement with business partners and developing the Enterprise Data Governance and Master Data Management team. The position will support the implementation of a data quality initiative, work with other data teams to build the data catalog and data quality tools, and collaborate with Legal, Privacy, and Cybersecurity to ensure an enterprise-wide approach to data management. The role requires leveraging an understanding of data definition, data lineage, data quality, and data security, and contributing to data literacy across the organization. Key activities include building business glossaries and data catalogs, developing processes for technology standards approval, writing data governance policies, overseeing the adoption of data governance efforts, and partnering with legal and information security teams to reduce data management risks. Excellent communication skills are essential for collaborating with senior executives, business data owners, and stewards to govern data at an enterprise scale.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience working in data governance, data quality, analytics, or data management roles.
  • 12 years of overall experience.
  • Expert understanding of data concepts such as data definitions, metadata, lineage, and quality.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and translate governance concepts into practical guidance and business value.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
  • Strong experience using data catalogs or metadata management tools.
  • Strong experience implementing a data quality program.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the Data Governance strategy, including partnering with Data Privacy for regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with Business Operations, Cybersecurity, and IT to implement processes and technologies supporting the data governance strategy.
  • Align tactical initiatives with the data governance strategy across projects and programs.
  • Implement data governance strategy, controls, and capabilities such as data catalog, metadata management, data quality certification, data quality metrics, reference data management, data domain hierarchy and taxonomy management, reporting and analytics governance, data classification and tagging, data architecture, and data modeling.
  • Support Master Data Management by maintaining service levels and enhancing MDM capabilities.
  • Enhance the data literacy program to educate stakeholders on the importance of data and foster a data-driven culture.
  • Support the execution of the data governance vision, mission, strategy, and charter.
  • Lead the definition and documentation of Data Governance processes, including data and system flow documentation and process maps.
  • Align metadata repositories, data dictionaries, data lineage, Business Process Maps, and training materials with data and system process flows.
  • Lead working sessions with operational and information system owners for onboarding new data assets, including documentation of processes, procedures, system interfaces, data dictionaries, data models, and requirements.
  • Identify data quality "hot spots" and determine strategies to improve data quality controls and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with the data lake development team to implement guidelines and controls on data.
  • Chair the Data Governance Steering Committee responsible for defining data policies and standards.
  • Manage stakeholder communication and progress reporting at various organizational levels.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and simplify the execution of Data Transformation initiatives and data capabilities.
  • Support master data management, metadata management, data stewardship, data privacy, and security efforts.
  • Actively contribute with stakeholders as part of the Data Governance Council.
  • Continue the Data Governance framework, including determining accountabilities, progress dashboards, published minutes, decision logs, change controls, data issue management, and policies.
  • Lead the design, build, and execution of data quality standards and data protection standards across the enterprise.
  • Set documentation and enforcement policies and procedures for data quality management.
  • Lead the creation of defining metrics and KPIs for a Data Quality Scorecard, as well as dashboards and reports.
  • Analyze root causes for data defects and duplicate data issues, prioritizing remediation efforts.
  • Assist in the implementation of data security measures, including masking sensitive data.
  • Act as a liaison to the business on data quality and outstanding gaps.
  • Support the design, implementation, and day-to-day operation of data governance practices.
  • Work closely with Data Stewards, business partners, and Enterprise Data Governance leadership to improve data quality, consistency, usability, and trust.
