About The Position

Peregrine Advisors is seeking a Data Governance Lead to drive enterprise-level data governance for a federal agency, built on Microsoft Purview. This role involves setting policies and standards for data management, quality, and security. The position is a hybrid work arrangement based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, with a commuting cadence that varies by assignment. Initial engagement requires United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination. The Data Governance Lead will work closely with business and technical teams on an ongoing engagement, focusing on making data easy to discover and understand across cloud and on-premises sources, tracking governance adoption metrics, and providing leadership and strategic guidance on data governance practice. The goal is to leave the organization with usable governance, trusted data catalogs, accountable owners, and standards that protect data quality and security.

Requirements

• 7+ years of data governance or data management experience
• Bachelor's degree
• Strong hands-on experience configuring and using Microsoft Purview
• Solid understanding of core data governance and data management principles
• Proven experience managing data catalogs, data classification, data lineage, and business glossaries
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Data Owners, Data Stewards, and technical teams
• In-depth knowledge of data quality, metadata management, and data security concepts
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong stakeholder management skills
• The ability to lead and execute complex data governance initiatives independently
• Proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel

• Experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure Databricks services

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and implementation of data governance initiatives across the organization.
• Configure and administer Microsoft Purview for data cataloging, discovery, classification, and continuous governance.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
• Oversee the management of the data catalog, business glossary, data classification, and data lineage.
• Work with Data Owners, Data Stewards, and cross-functional teams to strengthen data quality and governance practice.
• Establish clear processes for data ownership, stewardship, and accountability.
• Make data easy to discover and understand across cloud and on-premises sources.
• Track governance adoption metrics and find opportunities to improve before anyone asks.
• Provide leadership and strategic guidance on data governance practice.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation, governance frameworks, and process guidelines.
• Engage business stakeholders and facilitate governance discussions and workshops through to decisions.
