About The Position

Leidos, a leading defense, intelligence, and technology company, is seeking motivated and aspiring data and software students for our Summer 2027 Internship Program (Starts May 2027). As a Data Engineering & Analytics Intern, you will join our Digital Sector on the Global Solutions Management – Operations II (GSM-O II) contract at Scott AFB, IL. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with large-scale data visualization, automation, and software development in direct support of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). Are you passionate about turning massive datasets into actionable intelligence? As our team helps lead DISA's transition to next-generation platforms, you will be embedded directly with our Operational Engineering and Innovations teams. You will learn how to build dynamic dashboards, test enterprise-level software, and develop automation solutions that have a real-world impact on the security and efficiency of the global Defense Information System Network (DISN).

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • A foundational understanding of software development with Python, Java, or SQL, and a working knowledge of web technologies like HTML and JavaScript.
  • Basic familiarity with distributed version control software, such as Git.
  • A strong desire to learn, keen attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • This internship is based on-site at Scott AFB, Illinois. All work must be performed on site – no teleworking opportunities.
  • Candidates must be in the St. Louis Metro area and have their own transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Obtaining a CompTIA Security+ certification (or any certification that aligns with DoD 8570 IAT Level II) before the start date is strongly encouraged.
  • Experience from home labs, class projects, hackathons, or prior internships is highly desirable.
  • Web development using UI frameworks like React.
  • Containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Cloud environments (AWS is a plus).
  • Agile development tools like JIRA and Confluence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation of Kibana visualizations and dashboards to provide critical information to network operators and leadership.
  • Gain exposure to enterprise data pipelines by assisting with the deployment, configuration, and testing of Kafka and Elastic clusters.
  • Collaborate with an Agile team, participate in daily scrums, and demonstrate working software.
  • Develop skills in troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure and system-level issues.
  • Have the opportunity to design, develop, and test software written in Python, JavaScript, and SQL.
