About The Position

At Community Financial System, Inc. (CFSI), the Data Engineer designs, builds, and maintains data pipelines and architectures. The role works independently on strategic, high-level data modeling projects with the senior Data Architect and supports data integration, data quality, database solutions, analytics initiatives, and data infrastructure performance. It also contributes to other Data & Analytics projects and helps the department and bank achieve their goals. The position develops ETL pipelines and scalable data infrastructure, including relational databases, data lakes, and distributed computing systems. It works with data analysts to provide appropriate datasets and systems, implements data validation and security measures, and optimizes data storage and retrieval. The role requires maintaining a broad view of organizational needs while producing detailed operational processes, workflows, and requirements, as well as complying with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, internal controls, and training requirements. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
At least 3 years of experience in a data engineering role.
Experience with Snowflake and DBT.
Strong working knowledge of Python, SQL, and Git.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate in technical and user-friendly terms.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and collaborate and work in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

Experience with ELT tools, preferably Astronomer and Apache Airflow.
Experience with BI tools, preferably Power BI.
Familiarity with data modeling and data warehousing concepts, preferably including modeling tools such as DBT or DataIKU.
Working knowledge of cloud data warehousing, preferably Snowflake, Azure, or similar cloud infrastructure.
Prior AI/ML experience or knowledge is highly preferred, particularly for leveraging advanced analytics techniques in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Banking experience.

Responsibilities

Design and implement ETL data pipelines that bring data from various sources into a central repository or Snowflake data lake.
Build and maintain scalable data infrastructure, including relational databases, data lakes, and distributed computing systems that can handle large volumes of data.
Collaborate with data analysts to understand metrics and data requirements and provide access to necessary datasets and data systems.
Implement data validation and cleaning processes, and monitor pipelines for errors or anomalies.
Optimize data storage and retrieval for performance and reduced latency, including through indexing, partitioning, and caching.
Implement data security and privacy measures, including encryption, access controls, and compliance with data governance policies and regulations.
Work on strategic, high-level data modeling projects alongside the senior Data Architect.
Assist with key initiatives and other related Data & Analytics projects.
Maintain a broad view of organizational needs while creating detailed operational processes, workflows, and requirements.
Design, develop, and implement data models required by projects across the organization.
Maintain knowledge of and comply with applicable laws and regulations, policies, procedures, and internal controls, and complete required training in a timely manner.
Provide assistance as needed to help the Data & Analytics Department and the bank achieve their goals.
