About The Position

HyerTek is a growing federal technology consulting firm delivering secure Microsoft-based enterprise solutions, data analytics, and modernization services to government agencies. With deep expertise across Microsoft Dynamics, Power Platform, Power BI, and secure federal IT delivery, we help agencies modernize mission-critical systems and improve operational performance. HyerTek is hiring a Data Engineer with deep expertise in the Microsoft data ecosystem to design and build modern data platforms for federal customers. You will primarily work in Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and Power BI, with significant work in Dataverse for engagements built on the Power Platform and Dynamics 365. This role is hands-on engineering. You will write the pipelines, model the data, and stand up the analytics layer—not just architect on a whiteboard.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience with the Microsoft data stack.
  • Strong proficiency in T-SQL, including query optimization on large datasets.
  • Production experience with at least three of: Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Databricks on Azure, Dataverse.
  • Strong Power BI development skills — DAX, semantic modeling, RLS, and deployment pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of PySpark or Spark SQL within Fabric or Synapse notebooks.
  • Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD for data assets (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions).
  • Strong written communication — able to produce design documents, data dictionaries, and stakeholder-ready explanations of model decisions.
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (Top Secret preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft certifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview for cataloging and lineage.
  • Experience integrating Dataverse with downstream analytical platforms.
  • Experience building data solutions in GCC or GCC High environments.
  • Familiarity with Python beyond Spark — for utilities, validation, and lightweight ETL.
  • Exposure to AI/ML enrichment patterns (Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, Fabric AI skills).

Responsibilities

  • Design and build end-to-end data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Pipelines, Notebooks) and Azure Data Factory.
  • Build dimensional and semantic models that feed Power BI as the consumption layer; deliver Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards that are performant, governed, and reusable.
  • Develop and tune SQL across Azure SQL, Synapse Dedicated/Serverless, and Fabric SQL endpoints; write efficient T-SQL and DAX.
  • Integrate data from Dataverse, SharePoint, Dynamics 365, SQL sources, REST APIs, and flat files into curated analytical layers.
  • Build orchestration and monitoring across pipelines — alerting, retries, lineage, and cost observability.
  • Apply data governance practices: row-level security, sensitivity labels, Purview cataloging, and Power BI workspace governance.
  • Partner with architects, application developers, and analysts to translate functional requirements into data products.
  • Document data models, pipelines, and operational runbooks to a quality that supports customer handoff and audit.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Paid time off (PTO) and company holidays
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Professional development and certification support
  • Employee assistance program (EAP)
  • Life and disability insurance
