A small technology team supports the data, systems, automations, and reporting that ensure the smooth daily operation of our clinics. The team works with practice management systems, Microsoft 365, reporting dashboards, internal tools, integrations, and increasingly AI-driven automations. We are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to join this team and collaborate closely with the Senior Data Engineer. This role is crucial for maintaining reliable data for systems, reports, and automations, with a goal to accelerate development and reduce key-person dependency.

  • Working knowledge of Python, including pandas, REST APIs, CSV and Excel handling, and basic error handling.
  • Good understanding of data pipelines, including scheduling, task dependencies, incremental vs. full loads, and safe re-running of failed jobs.
  • Fundamental Git knowledge, including branching, commits, and merge requests.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools such as Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to open, understand, and troubleshoot existing Power Automate flows.
  • A practical, problem-solving mindset with the confidence to ask questions, document work, and improve processes.
  • Interest in AI-driven automation and the role of clean, structured data in powering internal AI tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Airflow, dbt, or BigQuery.
  • Basic Docker knowledge.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms, particularly GCP or AWS.
  • Experience working with healthcare, veterinary, retail, multi-site, or operational data.
  • Familiarity with AI automation, internal copilots, or secure data access for AI assistants.
  • Awareness of MCP-style integrations or secure methods for AI assistants to query structured business data.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain data pipelines and integrations between core systems.
  • Extract, clean, and transform data from various sources, including veterinary practice management platforms.
  • Support reporting, analytics, and operational dashboards for group-wide teams.
  • Maintain existing Microsoft 365 automations and assist in migrating them to a more robust pipeline stack.
  • Work with clinic, finance, operations, and leadership data to enhance its reliability, usability, and connectivity.
  • Prepare, structure, and validate data for AI-driven automation projects.
  • Document, simplify, and de-risk the data infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot data issues, integration failures, and reporting inconsistencies.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Data Engineer to enhance the building, monitoring, and maintenance of data processes.

Benefits

  • Salary: up to £40k
  • Home-based or hybrid working, depending on location and business needs.
  • Real ownership and variety from day one.
  • Opportunity to work on practical data and automation projects impacting 50+ clinics.
  • A small, collaborative team where work is visible and ideas are heard.
  • Chance to help shape the future data and AI infrastructure of a growing veterinary group.
