About The Position

Saxon Global Inc. is seeking a Data Engineer or Database Administrator for a 100% remote, 1-year contract position with a high likelihood of conversion in 2026. The role primarily involves migrating MySQL databases, performing data modeling and transformation for Redshift, and handling ETL/ELT processes. The candidate will also be responsible for ad hoc tasks such as moving SharePoint files into a database for analytics, spinning up databases, light data modeling, and operational tasks like patching. The position requires a strong technical background in data engineering or database administration, with experience in public cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and programming languages like Python. Familiarity with data warehouse platforms, DevOps practices, and ETL tools is also desired. The role demands strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a focus on automation and data quality.

Requirements

  • Primary role in recent positions must be as a Data Engineer or Database Administrator.
  • Working experience in public cloud is strongly preferred (AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with at least one programming language (e.g. Python) and some scripting experience (e.g., Bash/Shell) is a strong plus.
  • Experience with data warehouse platforms like Redshift, Snowflake or BigQuery is desired.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for data engineering (using Flyway, Liquibase) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ETL tools and frameworks is strongly desired.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and identify patterns or trends.
  • Problem-solving skills to address data-related challenges.
  • Ability to assess and improve data quality through validation and cleansing processes.
  • A technical mindset focused on automating processes to reduce manual toil.
  • Comfortable working with different Agile software development methodologies.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proactively identifies and removes project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team.
  • Ability to determine the most effective way to integrate disparate systems to optimize operational processes.

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience managing databases/data warehouses, including administration and optimization is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in data engineering and proficiency in SQLs is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience managing Database Infrastructure for Digital Workplace.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience developing Data pipelines & ETL jobs using tools such as Talend, Rundeck or AWS Glue.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data warehouse platforms like Redshift, Snowflake or BigQuery is desired.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for data engineering (using Flyway, Liquibase) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ETL tools and frameworks is strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Migration of several MySQL Databases, involving backup, snapshot, and transfer using existing templates and documented steps.
  • Database Migrations for MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, DocumentDB, AWS Redshift.
  • Data modeling and transformation for Redshift.
  • Handling data format inconsistencies using custom Python/Java code and orchestration tools for job creation and scheduling.
  • Performing ad hoc tasks, such as moving SharePoint files into a database for analytics.
  • Spinning up databases based on data models.
  • Light data modeling (table relationships).
  • Performing operational tasks, such as patching.
