About The Position

The Canadian Personal Banking (CPB) data team supports CPB operations and analytics partners in their data needs. This role involves a broad range of data engineering functions including data modeling, data quality, data profiling, data acquisition and ingestion, extract transform load (ETL), metadata enrichment and management, data provenance and lineage, and other specialized data management functions. The position requires performing data analysis, assessing data management requirements, and maintaining expert knowledge of upstream data. Articulating technical design and development details to non-technical business partners, eliciting and analyzing business and data requirements, and developing complete business solutions are key aspects of the role. The Data Engineer will develop and maintain complex data products, ETL jobs, and frameworks using the Bank's standard tools and best practices, and provide support to development and testing teams. Ensuring data compliance with enterprise standards, policies, and guidelines, supporting stakeholders in data interpretation, and understanding data engineering initiatives and governance principles are also crucial. The role involves executing code check-ins, coordinating with technology teams, managing release activities, and supporting QA testing. Adherence to security coding practices, internal policies, and regulatory guidelines, including privacy, security, governance, and access controls, is mandatory. Capturing and ensuring compatibility of metadata and data lineage with enterprise tools, documenting technical decisions, risks, and lessons learned, and participating fully in team activities to support a positive, service-oriented, and innovative environment are expected. Continuous enhancement of knowledge in data engineering, emerging trends, and related tools, along with knowledge transfer, personal performance management, and cross-training, are also part of the role. The Data Engineer will keep others informed of project status, assist colleagues, and act as a brand ambassador.

Requirements

Degree, Postgraduate Degree, or Technical Certificate in Data Management or related discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering), or equivalent practical experience
2-3 years of hands-on development experience with Azure, Databricks, ADF, Pyspark, Python, SQL, BitBucket and/or GitHub
Working experience with ETL tools and development
Agile experience
Effective communication

Mainframe Knowledge or experience is an asset.
Foundational knowledge of data engineering frameworks, technologies, tools, processes, patterns, and procedures, including how they impact other technology areas such as Architecture or Infrastructure
Foundational knowledge of TD applications, systems, networks, innovation, design activities, business, organization, best practices, and standards
Performs moderately complex technical tasks independently
Designs and develops to meet business and technical requirements; analyzes, adapts, integrates, codes, tests, debugs, and executes

Responsibilities

Perform data analysis and assess data management requirements for a specific Platform or Journey, including complex analysis involving multiple pods or products
Maintain expert knowledge of upstream data, including knowledge provided through data profiling, data quality reporting, and via the production of metadata
Articulate technical design and development details to non-technical business partners
Elicit, analyze, and understand business and data requirements to develop complete business solutions, including data models (entity relationship diagrams, dimensional data models), ETL and business rules, data life-cycle management, governance, lineage, and metadata
Develop and maintain complex data products, ETL jobs and frameworks using the Bank's standard tools and best practices
Provide support to the development and testing teams to resolve data issues, including escalation support on complex issues
Ensure data is maintained in compliance with enterprise data standards, policies, and guidelines
Support partners and stakeholders in interpreting and analyzing data
Understand data engineering initiatives and capabilities, data governance principles and how they apply across the organization
Execute & approve code check-in/ check-out into source code repository as part of source code management
Coordinate with technology work teams such as ITS, Architecture, Enterprise Protect etc. to ensure overall delivery success
Raise service-now requests and work with the change management team to support release management activities
Support the QA team with data analysis/investigations of complex issues/ test cases as part of SIT/PAT testing
Adhere & contribute towards standard security coding practices to ensure application is free of most common coding vulnerabilities
Adhere to internal policies/procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines; ensure privacy, security, governance, and access controls are properly adhered to
Ensure metadata and data lineage is captured and compatible with enterprise metadata and data management tools and processes
Ensure technical decisions, technical risks and lessons learned are identified, clearly documented and enhancements are accordingly implemented
Participate fully as a member of the team, support a positive environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues/ points of interest
Support the team by continuously enhancing knowledge/expertise in data engineering industry, keep current on emerging trends/developments, grow knowledge of related tools and techniques, and participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit
