About The Position

Leidos is hiring an experienced Data Engineer/Architect to help design a new data foundation supporting generative AI applications, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and analysis of diverse data sets. The role combines architectural design and hands-on development. The selected candidate will define and document the foundation’s tools, schemas, and ontologies so software engineers can implement it and management can understand the capabilities it supports. The scope and compensation will be aligned with the selected candidate’s background and expertise. The position is remote and requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 or 12+ years of experience in a Science, Engineering, or Technology field, or a master’s degree with 6 or 10+ years of experience in such a field; additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance in DISS.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing and developing systems to analyze large structured and unstructured data sets from disparate sources, including ETL processes.
  • At least 5 years of experience with principles associated with AI applications, including RAG, prompt and context engineering, and AI workflow orchestration and design.
  • Experience configuring and managing AI agents and integrating them into automated workflows.
  • Ability to develop tools, algorithms, and queries to improve business performance.
  • Ability to develop technical solutions, including hands-on Python or JavaScript development and Python-based services, to achieve project goals.
  • Ability to develop intelligent systems that analyze data, learn from patterns, predict outcomes, and make informed decisions autonomously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain data engineering and architectural concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working directly with product owners, including previous experience in product ownership or product architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating and/or operating Dagster, PostgreSQL, Alembic, or pgvector.
  • Experience with digital engineering (SysML).
  • Experience with generative AI applications, including RAG, embeddings, and vector search.
  • Experience providing operational support for data foundations and DevOps.
  • Familiarity with Medallion-style architecture.
  • Current Secret clearance in DISS.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement big data systems, ETL pipelines, and Data Lakes, Lakehouses, or Meshes.
  • Design and implement schemas and ontologies.
  • Design and implement a data foundation for generative AI applications, including RAG, and business analytics.
  • Design and implement row- and cell-level data access controls.
  • Develop software hands-on using Python and/or JavaScript to support data integration and application functionality.
  • Document data definitions and designs.
