About The Position

Nordstrom Data Platform is a real-time, event-streaming-centric analytical platform that provides high-quality, pre-stitched 360 views of our products, inventory, purchase orders, price, fulfillment, logistics and customer service. The Insights Delivery Merch Team delivers data that enables Nordstrom business users such as merchant planners and buyers, data scientists, store personnel, and other business users and leadership to drive the critical Nordstrom Merchandise best action decisions in a single place near real-time. We are looking for a capable engineer to help our team design and develop highly scalable software applications, data pipelines, and database solutions, apply scientific and mathematical principles, and deliver on Nordstrom's strategic vision.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in at least one modern programming language such as Java or Python.
  • 3+ years of experience with databases, SQL, data modeling and automated engineering solutions.
  • Experience with cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
  • 1+ year of experience building dbt models, or strong familiarity with dbt fundamentals (models, tests, documentation, project structure).
  • Experience in developing near real-time distributed data processing solutions using Kafka, Flink, Spark, DynamoDB, and Airflow.
  • Experience in scalable distributed systems, service-oriented and event-driven streaming architecture.
  • Experience with best practices for data engineering and operational excellence.
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related degree
  • Passion for innovative technologies, operational excellence, and customer impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with GCP BigQuery is a plus.
  • Business domain knowledge in Merchandise Planning and Reporting data solutions is a huge plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable and durable data analytical solutions using in-house and modern technologies in an agile environment.
  • Understand the specific needs of a major line of business and the related set of applications, systems, or functions, and design data solutions that fit business needs.
  • Understand architecture and design interaction between multiple modules.
  • Design and develop distributed data processing pipelines in the Big Data ecosystem in the Cloud, apply data definitions, modeling, structures, and infrastructure technologies and adhere to good engineering practices.
  • Conduct code reviews and drive accountability in following software engineering principles.
  • Build testing tools and CI/CD pipeline, reduce automation friction to speed up the path to business outcomes.
  • Identify data performance issues and optimize the solution.
  • Maintain high data quality standards; identify and measure quality across the entire solution.
  • Perform ongoing production and on-call support duties to resolve any incidents and issues.
  • Work on cost savings, production alerts, and logging dashboards.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data analysts, data scientists, and business partners.
  • Partner with analyst stakeholders toward delivering highly effective self-service BI solutions.
  • Communicate clearly and efficiently with Nordstrom teams.
