Data Enablement Director

Old National BankLake Elmo, MN

About The Position

The Data Enablement Director is a strategic, consumer-facing leadership role within Old National Bank's Data Technology organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Data Technology Officer (CDTO), this leader is responsible for driving the adoption, activation, and ongoing expansion of ONB's enterprise data product strategy across all lines of business and functional domains. The role includes direct leadership of product-oriented team members within the central Data Technology organization while also providing indirect leadership, coordination, and oversight across line-of-business product teams to ensure alignment to enterprise data product standards, priorities, and outcomes. This role serves as the primary champion for ONB's internal data marketplace, enterprise data catalog, and certified data product framework — translating complex data capabilities into meaningful, accessible, and trusted resources for data consumers enterprise-wide. The Director, Data Enablement bridges the gap between data producers and consumers, ensuring that ONB's investment in modern data infrastructure (Databricks, Unity Catalog, and the medallion architecture) is fully realized through high adoption, strong data literacy, and measurable business impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, or data strategy roles, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience driving adoption of enterprise data platforms, data catalogs, or self-service analytics tools at scale.
  • Proven track record as a change leader and storyteller who can translate technical data concepts for executive and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong understanding of modern data architectures including cloud-based data platforms, medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold), and data product frameworks.
  • Experience with enterprise data catalog and governance tools (e.g., Unity Catalog, Alation, Collibra, Purview, or equivalent).
  • Exceptional executive communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in financial services, banking, or a similarly regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with Databricks, Unity Catalog, and/or cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Knowledge of data mesh principles, decentralized data ownership models, and domain-oriented data architectures.
  • Experience building and scaling data literacy or analytics enablement programs across large organizations (5,000+ employees).
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or other BI platforms used in self-service analytics contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Champion ONB's internal data marketplace as the primary destination for certified data products, ensuring business users across all six domains (Finance, Risk, Compliance, Retail Banking, Commercial, Operations) can discover and consume trusted data assets.
  • Own the end-to-end consumer experience within the enterprise data catalog — driving usability, search and discovery, lineage visibility, and glossary completeness.
  • Define and execute an adoption roadmap for the data marketplace and catalog, including phased rollout strategies, success metrics, and feedback loops.
  • Partner with Data Governance and Platform teams to ensure catalog accuracy, data product certification standards, and SLA compliance are visible and meaningful to consumers.
  • Represent the voice of the data consumer in the design and evolution of ONB's data product strategy, operating model, and certification framework.
  • Collaborate with domain data owners and the Enterprise Data Services (EDS) team to ensure data products are built to meet real consumer needs — with defined SLAs, clear ownership, and intuitive access patterns.
  • Establish and maintain a demand management process that captures, prioritizes, and routes data product requests from business stakeholders to the appropriate delivery teams.
  • Develop consumer-facing documentation, data dictionaries, and usage guides that make certified data products accessible to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • Design and deliver enterprise-wide enablement programs that build data literacy, self-service analytics capabilities, and marketplace fluency across all lines of business.
  • Develop a tiered training curriculum for data consumers — from foundational data awareness to advanced self-service analytics — aligned to role-based personas and business domains.
  • Partner with HR and LOB leadership to embed data fluency into onboarding programs, role-based development plans, and performance frameworks.
  • Create and maintain an ONB data enablement community of practice that fosters peer learning, celebrates data-driven wins, and surfaces adoption barriers in real time.
  • Serve as a senior liaison between Data Technology and business domain stakeholders — communicating roadmap progress, managing expectations, and building executive-level confidence in the data platform.
  • Lead change management efforts associated with the shift to a data product-centric operating model, including communication planning, stakeholder alignment, and resistance mitigation.
  • Partner with the Data Strategy and Product sub-teams to co-develop business cases, adoption metrics, and executive reporting that demonstrate the value of ONB's data investments.
  • Represent Data Enablement at enterprise forums, town halls, and LOB leadership meetings as a visible advocate for data-driven culture.
  • Define and track key adoption and enablement KPIs including marketplace active users, certified data product consumption rates, self-service query volume, training completion, and consumer satisfaction scores.
  • Produce regular reporting cadences for the CDTO and senior stakeholders on enablement progress, adoption trends, and business impact.
  • Continuously gather consumer feedback through surveys, office hours, and embedded LOB partnerships to refine the enablement approach and inform platform priorities.
