About The Position

The Data Center Technician (DCT) plays a key role in Computacenter’s Integration Center, guiding the flow of physical technology products through the warehouse and the integration center, where products are crafted, racked, stacked, configured, and tested to meet specific customer needs. DCTs work with little or minimal direction, handling products and updating associated information systems for various business functions including receiving, cycle counting, kitting, inventory, picking, benching, un-benching, packing, shipping, asset management, pre-stage rack and stack activities, and programming and configuration of automation programs as required by customers. This position is located at the Livermore, CA facility and is assigned to the Second Shift, with standard working hours of 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Data Center Technicians will be assigned a passkey for access to the Integration Center (IC) and Warehouse areas, which are otherwise restricted.

Requirements

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with rack fabrication.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the usual and customary methods of performing the job functions, including: a variety of standing, sitting, and walking throughout the day; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; repeated twisting at the torso while lifting and pulling inventory from shelves; regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; usage of pallet jacks; carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing, including ladders, and balancing; and significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Able to read and understand rack elevation and cable matrix documentation.
  • Able to plan and prioritize challenging projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Able to work independently, as well as with peers.
  • Able to adapt with rapid change.
  • Strong working knowledge of computer system applications (e.g. Windows, Microsoft Office, OSX, Salesforce).

Nice To Haves

  • A+ and/or CCNA Data Center Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret Rack Elevation documentation to rack and stack servers, network hardware, and accessories.
  • Read and interpret cable matrix documentation to correctly lace cables port to port.
  • Operate cable labeling machine and apply labels onto cables per customer standards.
  • Keep track of all assets assigned to DCT until completion of rack build.
  • Install components to servers and networking devices such as memory, CPU, expansion cards, and modules.
  • Place specified items on a designated, numbered bench for configuration and testing, including un-boxing, labeling, powering-up, and recording serial numbers.
  • Re-package items (matching product serial numbers) and retrieve designated items from the designated bench in the Integration Center.
  • Record the change in location and status of items in the inventory system.
  • Place items in a designated staging area in the warehouse to prepare for shipping.
  • Craft designated items for a given project into larger boxes or pallets, stretch-wrapping them, and verifying that all designated items are included.
  • Capture critical device information such as asset tag, serial numbers, MAC addresses, and other information deemed significant for client and company use.
  • Make recommendations to improve customer designs for power and equipment load when necessary.
  • Understand and abide by all security and operational policies.
