Department: Development Location: Austin, TX FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: VP of Construction OVERVIEW Element Critical seeks a Data Center Field Superintendent in Austin, TX embodying accountability, integrity, grit, and problem-solving. This role oversees subcontractors, mitigates risk, manages daily operations, ensures project schedules, quality, and safety, and fosters effective communication in a fast-paced environment. This role demands a proactive, detail-oriented professional with deep expertise in Safety, QA/QC, and Scheduling, capable of balancing technical oversight with stakeholder collaboration in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Preference for one or more of the following safety certifications such as OSHA 30, 1st Aid, CPR, and CQC certification issued by USACE / NAVFAC
  • Minimum 10+ years in construction supervision and a proven track record of overseeing projects more than $10M+.
  • 5 years’ experience focused on data center or mission-critical facilities is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction management processes means and methods is required
  • In-depth understanding of data center systems including power distribution (e.g., UPS, generators), cooling (e.g., CRAC units, liquid cooling), fire suppression, and cabling infrastructure; familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling), Primavera P6 or MS Project for scheduling, and quality management tools like Procore or Autodesk BIM 360 is preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building abilities to motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Understands project control and change order management
  • Strong analytical skills for schedule forecasting, root-cause analysis, and performance metrics.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, Email and other software used in the construction industry
  • Detail-oriented, accountable, adaptable, has integrity and grit, and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to be site-based with travel between our facilities including out-of-state assets.
  • Is polite, conversational, self-confident, comfortable to be with and non-assuming
  • Is organized and produces a paper trail that can be easily understood by a third party
  • Embraces life-long learning, strives to stay current with new industry trends and practices and willingly participates in industry events and networking functions

Responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining a culture that values safety, health and cleanliness and conduct safety audits while promoting a zero-incident culture
  • Review, monitor, and enforce detailed project schedules in collaboration with general contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams. Manage and look-ahead no less than two weeks to proactively identify issues that could lead to problems and facilitate solutions, such as corrective actions, to maintain critical path timelines and project milestones.
  • Conduct regular inspections to verify compliance with design specifications, industry standards, and owner requirements by reviewing materials, workmanship, and installations and reject non-conforming work. Manage the punch list and project closeout process to assure timely completion
  • Act as Element Critical’s on-site representative, facilitate daily meetings with contractors, architects, engineers, and vendors and ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and IT infrastructure systems.
  • Collaborate with local authorities to ensure compliance with relevant codes, OSHA regulations, and other industry guidelines, conducting inspections and facilitating necessary approvals to maintain safety and regulatory compliance
  • Identify and mitigate construction risks related to schedule slippage, quality deviations, or safety hazards; enforce OSHA and site-specific safety protocols
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, change orders, RFIs, field reports, and quality metrics; work with the PM team, GC, subcontractors, and vendors to create daily field reports on manpower, progress, schedule variance, and quality performance. Ensure all required documentation from the construction team, such as Site-Specific Safety Plans, Building permits, Job Hazard Analysis, LOTO, Fall Protection Plans, Hot Work permits, Incident and Near-Miss Reports, etc are complete and reviewed regularly.
  • Conduct and/or attend pre-construction, progress and other project and staff meetings. Conduct and/or participate in regularly held meetings involving internal staff and external stake holders such as owners, subcontractors, etc. Meeting with client representatives on a regular basis to discuss the status of projects, to proactively identify and resolve problems and to assure that the client is kept knowledgeable about the status of the work
  • Recommend process enhancements for future projects based on lessons learned, contributing to the owner's playbook for efficient, high-quality data center delivery and operation.
