About The Position

Google's Technical Infrastructure team builds and sustains the physical architecture that powers its massive digital ecosystem. As a Server Operations Manager, you will lead a dedicated team of Data Center Technicians responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and deploying the infrastructure for Google's search technology and global product portfolio. Your responsibilities include overseeing the high-quality installation and configuration of server hardware, components, and specialized server software, including Google’s customized Linux cluster. You will manage complex installations and technical troubleshooting, including intricate networking infrastructure (routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols). Technicians may also lead project teams during large-scale hardware installations and develop project contingency plans. The Technical Infrastructure team operates with an engineering-first mindset, focused on improving systems and engineering next-generation platforms. The team is responsible for keeping Google's networks operational and secure, ensuring maximum hardware efficiency and seamless system performance for millions of global users.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience managing technical teams, vendor or contract management and service delivery.
8 years of experience working in data center environments, including building and operating infrastructure, and network and compute architecture and lifecycle, and Linux/Unix system administration.
Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.

Nice To Haves

Experience leading and improving Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives.

Responsibilities

Manage round-the-clock operations across all shifts (days, nights, weekends) within the metro area.
Oversee hiring, coaching, talent development, and vendor management for technical teams.
Lead the deployment, maintenance, and support of large-scale systems and network architectures.
Leverage Linux/Unix, network protocol, and hardware life-cycle expertise to resolve complex strategic challenges.
Execute global strategic projects aligned with company goals while driving strict EHS compliance.
