The Data Center Tier II Technician at Lightedge Solutions will manage and maintain all aspects of our data centers and other critical facilities. They will utilize and create standard operating procedures to perform and coordinate routine maintenance of system hardware. This role involves working directly with other technicians, support staff, senior management, vendors, and contractors to continually meet the highest industry standards for availability, security, and efficiency. The employee will be a member of the DC Operations team and will report directly to the Data Center Operations Manager.

Requirements

• A minimum of a two-year technical degree or 4 to 8 years of equivalent experience in a technical environment or a military occupational specialty (MOS).
• Experience in network cabling termination: Ethernet, CAT6, fiber.
• Experience with routine maintenance tasks in data centers.
• Familiarity with operating systems and system hardware.
• Basic networking terminology and media identification.
• Strong skills in computer hardware and software, high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and effective use of web browsers.
• General understanding of cooling systems in data centers and techniques for managing airflow.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize activities in a complex, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in various types of wiring requirements, including Ethernet, telephone, CAT6, and fiber (both single-mode and multi-mode).
• Proficient in data center cabling and installation and hardware reclaim.
• Understanding data center cooling systems and airflow management techniques.
• Demonstrated a thorough ability to document policies and procedures.
• Experience in working with building and computerized management systems is required to support and enhance building monitoring systems.

Responsibilities

• Work with other Lightedge personnel, contractors, and vendors to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with data center hardware.
• Install servers and networking equipment into racks with associated network cabling.
• Work with project managers and technicians to facilitate new client service installations.
• Firmware and physical hardware upgrades port identification.
• Receive and document incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Respond to and resolve alarm events affecting infrastructure and services.
• Follow established Change Control processes; review and follow MOPs for Change activities and maintenance windows.
• Assist in the design layout, installation, and documentation of new racks and cages.
• Available for on-call rotation to support non-business hours, oversee preventative maintenance and break/fix activity by vendors, perform routine maintenance, optimize hardware, and provide client support.
• Works with clients to resolve cabinet/cage infrastructure issues and power utilization.
• Coordinate and supervise maintenance activities with vendors for onsite visits and tours as well as remote site access and ticketing when needed.
• Work with project managers and technicians to assist in new client service installations.
• Available for on-call rotation to support after-hours activities including overseeing preventive maintenance, managing break/fix tasks performed by vendors, conducting routine maintenance, optimizing infrastructure, and providing client support.
• Travel if necessary to remote data center sites including outside of country for custom hardware buildouts.
• Share technical knowledge and operational experience with team members to enhance professional growth and practical cross-training of the DC Ops and Support teams.
• Responsible for installing the hardware and cabling required for new IT services.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.
