About The Position

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring, maintaining and deploying the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Data Center Technician, you'll deploy and maintain Google's advanced Data Center Server and Network Infrastructure. You'll also participate in or lead local project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. In this role, duties range from the physical deployment of data center-related technology to working closely with the various stakeholders. It will fall to you to ensure that our goals, missions and projects are successfully delivered, and, more importantly, that they are repeatable across our global array of data centers. This position offers a great introduction to the wider engineering world at Google. Depending of your area of interest, capabilities, and geographical mobility, you will have the opportunity to develop either within Hardware Operations or move towards software development, engineering, networking operations or our project management groups. In this role, you will oversee the computing and networking operations of a data center site(s) while ensuring SLOs are met and team performance is aligned to those goals. You will develop a team of technical staff to meet objectives and to take responsibility for the management and implementation of multiple projects for your team. You will ensure data center related priorities are consistent with company objectives and will work with others to set and implement short-term and long-term strategy for the site. You will also identify problems and create solutions for computing and network architecture. You will be required for weekend, evening or off-hours management support. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware.
  • 5 years of experience managing technical, vendor, contract management, or delivery teams.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware.
  • 2 years of experience managing a technical team.
  • Experience leading and managing projects from initiation to completion and directing operations management initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of individuals; set and communicate individual and team priorities that support organizational goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Partner with teams to meet goals and stakeholders to manage facility activities and set/implement short- and long-term strategies.
  • Maintain, monitor, and execute security and operational procedures and track/analyze trends to identify opportunities for improvements ensuring alignment with organizational policies.
  • Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues.
  • Support and contribute to the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and other compliance programs and initiatives in collaboration with other teams to ensure environmental and safety incidents are investigated, resolved, and reported.
