Data Center Metro Technician

Position Overview The Metropolitan Technician (Metro Tech) supports and maintains critical data center operations for Cloudflare facilities located in Los Angeles. This role is responsible for supporting IT systems, network services, infrastructure deployments, troubleshooting activities, inventory management, and operational support within mission-critical data center environments.
Requirements
- 3–4 years of remote hands or data center experience.
- Working knowledge of Linux operating systems.
- Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Infinera, and Ciena hardware and operating systems.
- Understanding of data center environments and cable management best practices.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong multitasking and project coordination abilities.
- Experience leading projects and working autonomously.
- Experience with ticketing tools such as JIRA and DCIM systems such as NetBox.
- Ability to perform basic server diagnostics and troubleshooting.

- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs (25 kg).
- Access to reliable transportation for travel between metro-area sites.
- Experience planning and executing network deployments.
Responsibilities
- Support data center operations, network services, and business-critical systems.
- Install, rack, stack, and deploy servers, switches, routers, and network hardware.
- Perform software and firmware upgrades on network equipment.
- Run, verify, and test patch cables and structured cabling paths.
- Execute basic network configuration and troubleshooting activities.
- Support infrastructure maintenance and break-fix activities.
- Maintain inventory accuracy using DCIM tools such as NetBox.
- Coordinate cross-connect installations and vendor activities.
- Process shipments, maintain storage areas, and ensure cleanliness within cages/racks.
- Perform audits related to hardware, circuits, power, and capacity.
- Manage support tickets end-to-end using systems such as JIRA.
- Travel to nearby sites as needed to support operational requirements.
