With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical). As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the implementation and operational support of Google’s rapidly expanding data centers. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, construction, and commissioning of HVAC and mechanical distribution systems, ensuring projects are delivered safely, swiftly, and with high quality. You will be managing site-level mechanical engineering issues, ensuring compliance with design standards and local regulations, supporting quality assurance, and providing technical guidance to vendor teams. You will be a communicator and collaborator who grows on construction sites and has experience with mechanical systems, ideally within mission-critical facilities, heavy industrial, oil and gas, or semiconductor industries. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • 5 years of experience in design, construction, and commissioning of HVAC and mechanical distribution systems, including air and water side systems.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or other relevant field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • 5 years of experience with mission critical facilities and data centers (multi-tenant facilities or build-to-suit single tenant facilities) in design or construction with project/engineering management.
  • Experience working with data center equipment and environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, and fire safety systems).
  • Understanding of start up/commissioning processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining Mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, starting from the basis of design through to the issuance of construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
  • Collaborate with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific engineering Requests for Information (RFI) and ensure alignment between Google's requirements and the overall design.
  • Work with the core engineering team to provide site-specific requirements during the development of the Basis of Design (BOD) and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR.
  • Own and manage site-level power system issues during projects execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues.
