About The Position

ELITS is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Data Center Field Services Technician to lead work in customer data centers and co-location facilities around Mississauga. You will be the technical interface between customers and third-party providers, ensuring smooth execution of fiber and transport work and removing obstacles so work stays on track. This role includes travel to other locations of up to approximately 25% of the time.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2.5 years of hands-on fiber installation experience, including at least 1.5 years in large data center or similar mission-critical environments.
  • Proven team lead experience with face-to-face customer interaction, acting as the operational bridge between customer stakeholders and third-party providers.
  • Strong experience with single-mode and multimode fiber, LC connectors, fan-outs, and structured cabling.
  • Ability to interpret optical power measurements and make sound troubleshooting decisions based on dBm readings and loss results.
  • Proficiency with proper fiber cleaning methods and use of approved fiber cleaning tools and materials.
  • Ability to configure and verify front-of-panel loopbacks and test jumpers without disrupting rear fiber terminations.
  • Clear understanding of correct fiber type selection, including use of single-mode fiber for appropriate device-to-device links.
  • Strong English communication skills and proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting.
  • High integrity, self-motivation, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and stay composed in fast-paced, high-availability environments.
  • Commitment to safety standards, quality requirements, and operational best practices.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and audit fiber and transport activities in customer data centers and co-locations.
  • Install, decommission, remediate, and perform break/fix on connectorized fiber cabling and related hardware in large data center environments.
  • Conduct optical testing and troubleshooting using power meters, light sources, OTDRs, visual fault locators, and transport test sets.
  • Interpret methods of procedure, cut sheets, network diagrams, and vendor documentation to execute changes safely and accurately.
  • Configure patch panels, implement loopbacks and test jumpers on the front of panels without disturbing rear terminations, and maintain clean, labeled cable management.
  • Apply proper fiber handling and cleaning practices using approved tools and methods.
  • Communicate clearly with customer and third-party teams through ticketing tools and face-to-face updates, and document all work in customer systems.
