This position is for a Data Center Critical Environment Technician Manager within Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team. The role is crucial in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND 3+ years mission critical services work/applied learning experience (e.g., high availability assembly/manufacturing/critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields) OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work night shift.
  • Ability to be on-call during non-standard business hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Ability to respond within a reasonable timeframe when contacted and provide support remotely or on-site.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Ability to obtain Reliability Status screening from a duly authorized department or agency of the Government of Canada.
  • Must have five (5) years of continuous Canadian residency and must not have lived or worked outside of Canada for more than six (6) months during that time unless Microsoft is satisfied that the requisite clearance can nevertheless be obtained within required timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Model, coach, and care for the team by living company culture and values, defining team objectives, enabling success across boundaries, helping the team adapt and learn, attracting and retaining talent, understanding individual capabilities and aspirations, and investing in the growth of others.
  • Serve as an operations specialist in areas like electrical, mechanical, controls, or generators, performing advanced tasks independently.
  • Oversee and coach the team in inspecting critical environment equipment (controls, HVAC, mechanical systems), buildings, and grounds for safety and abnormal conditions, and analyze trends.
  • Monitor maintenance and operations performance using telemetry, control systems, and other platforms, identifying all alarms.
  • Utilize the internal computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track equipment assets, complete work order requests, and generate reports.
  • Respond safely and quickly to onsite incidents impacting operations, leading response teams and coordinating corrective repairs with other professionals.
  • Enhance, develop, or follow emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for incidents.
  • Gather information and create incident timelines, data, root-cause analyses, and action items following abnormal conditions.
  • Guide, oversee, and perform maintenance (planned, predictive, corrective) and repairs following MOPs and SOPs for various equipment and disciplines, escalating when appropriate.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for specific equipment, overseeing daily tasks and troubleshooting within their area of expertise.
  • Have a hands-on understanding of equipment operation and troubleshooting within trained disciplines.
  • Provide and/or assign team members to escort third-party contractors, vendors, and service providers on-site.
  • Coordinate and schedule supplier/vendor on-site activities and recognize when to stop work due to concerns.
  • Participate in initiating third-party work, ensuring safety and compliance with practices, procedures, and legislation.
  • Advise junior colleagues on inspection and supervision issues.
  • Provide consultation to lower-level colleagues in troubleshooting systems and problems.
  • Understand, follow, ensure, and coach the team on safety and security requirements (e.g., JHAs, toolbox talks) and business processes.
  • Proactively ensure safety and security requirements are met for their own work and the work of others.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and escalate immediately when unsafe conditions are observed.
  • Assess and identify necessary resources and equipment for EH&S objectives.
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and handoffs.
