About The Position

This position is part of a small on-site team providing end-user (tenant) commissioning oversight for a hyperscale data center build. This is a permanent full-time position on our data center commissioning team. In this role you will report directly to the data center end-user and act as their delegate onsite to monitor and witness the MEP and controls and monitoring systems commissioning activities performed by others. This position will be based full-time in the Amarillo, Texas area and is required to be onsite fulltime Monday – Friday. JLL is open to discussing living arrangements and associated expenses for this position. It is estimated this position will require 10-20% travel throughout US and possibly internationally for offsite meetings, and attendance at factory and integrator testing.

Requirements

  • Strong fluency with the commissioning processes and deliverables covered in ASHRAE commissioning requirements and guidelines.
  • Expertise in electrical and/or mechanical equipment/systems installation (means & methods), system startup and pre-functional inspections, acceptance testing and associated commissioning activities.
  • Possess strong proficiency in use of QA/QC and Cx software applications such as BIM360, CxAlloy, Facility Grid, and other related QA/QC and Cx applications.
  • Documented and verifiable experience acting as an Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Controls 3rd party Senior level Commissioning Engineer on greenfield data center projects with capacities of 25+MW.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant mechanical or electrical engineering and/or field-testing experience with minimum of 5 years in providing commissioning and/or construction QA/QC field services for data center construction projects.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in testing and commissioning of MV and LV Transformers, UPS systems, Generators, Paralleling Switchgear, ATSs and STSs, Fuel Oil systems, PDUs, EPMS, Chillers (air and water cooled), CDUs, CRACs, CRAHs, AHUs, BMS/BAS/EPMS.
  • Strong data management skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Project, Power Point, Word, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and report against contractor (and other third party) schedule updates.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • An ABET accredited engineering or technology degree is preferred or equivalent industry experience is acceptable.
  • A Commissioning Professional Certification from a recognized industry authority is highly preferred.
  • PE or PMP designation is considered an asset but not required.
  • Experience working in an engineering consultancy or data center owner organization is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and witness the MEP and controls and monitoring systems commissioning activities performed by others.
  • Work directly with Owner, General Contractors, sub-contractors, inspectors, AHJs, and others involved with the QA/QC program execution for large critical facility construction and commissioning.
  • Witness and review all facets of Commissioning activities for the related project by providing exceptional technical oversight.
  • Review and provide input on the development of Commissioning Plans and Commissioning Specifications.
  • Perform electrical and/or mechanical QA/QC inspection and review QA/QC documentation completed by equipment installers.
  • Perform Commissioning Design Drawing, Specification and Submittal Reviews.
  • Attend and participate in project commissioning meetings.
  • Review and comment on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Methods-of-Procedures (MOPs).
  • Develop and compile project commissioning documentation into site/project specific Systems Manuals for use by end-user’s operations team.
  • Develop/review/evaluate vendor training programs for installed equipment and systems.
  • Review and comment on planned testing scripts (developed by others) for L3-L5 commissioning activities, witness these testing activities and provide end-user input on test results, issues, and acceptance.
  • Provide detailed weekly reporting to end-user on overall status of the project commissioning activities.
