About The Position

A large data center in the Boardman/Hermiston, Oregon area is hiring a Data Center Cable Technician for a long-term contract-to-hire opportunity. The position is fully onsite in Hermiston, Oregon. The technician installs, configures, and maintains data center hardware and cabling infrastructure, troubleshoots equipment, and helps maintain reliable connections and outside plant infrastructure.

Requirements

• 6 months to 2+ years of prior IT-related experience.
• Knowledge of structured cabling standards and fiber optic technologies.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Willingness to submit to a driving record check, background check, and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

• Previous data center or cabling experience.
• Low-voltage experience.
• Cabling experience with coax, fiber, Cat5, Cat6, punch downs, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain data center hardware, including servers, racks, network equipment, and power distribution units (PDUs).
• Manage structured cabling and fiber optic systems in compliance with industry standards.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
• Collaborate with network and system engineers to integrate hardware with the data center environment.
• Conduct routine inspections of environmental and equipment health, including cooling systems and backup power solutions.
• Plan and oversee installation of external infrastructure such as conduits, cables, poles, and related facilities.
• Route and terminate fiber optic and copper cables connecting buildings or connecting to external network providers.
• Inspect and maintain outside plant infrastructure to reduce damage risks and support long-term reliability.
