About The Position

TEKsystems is seeking a Lead Data Architect to join their team. This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days onsite in Charlotte, NC. The position is a contract-to-hire opportunity. The Data Architect will be responsible for hands-on development and support of new and existing data applications. They will collaborate closely with business teams and analysts to understand data flows and business processes, providing recommendations on best practices and long-term solutions. The role involves partnering with Application and Enterprise Architects to review implementation designs and data flow architectures, and providing direction to engineering teams. Key responsibilities include supporting the design, development, testing, deployment, and documentation of data engineering and integration applications, maintaining documentation for downstream integrations, and supporting production issues to ensure data pipeline stability. The role also includes performing Scrum Master activities, identifying emerging technology trends, contributing to cloud migration roadmaps, leveraging AI and LLM capabilities within Databricks, and ensuring cross-team alignment and delivery excellence.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years in Data warehousing, Data integration, or Data engineering
  • Ability to work effectively with teams across the enterprise
  • Strong SQL and database fundamentals
  • Proficient in Databricks and modern Databricks capabilities (Unity Catalog, Databricks One, LLMs, etc.)
  • Experience working within Azure ecosystem
  • Experience with Informatica PowerCenter, IICS, Cognos, and Netezza Performance Servers
  • Experience with PowerBI, AzureML, Databricks, or Synapse
  • Experience using PySpark, Python, or Scala
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related engineering field preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure DevOps and GitHub preferred
  • Property&Casualty insurance experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Hands on development and support new or existing data applications
  • Work closely with business teams and analysts to understand data flows, business processes, and make recommendations to clients as requested on best practices or long-term solutions to resolve current issues and also for future system design
  • Partner with Application and Enterprise Architects to review low‑level implementation designs and understand high‑level data flow architectures
  • Provide direction to engineering teams implementing complex data solutions
  • Support design, development, code reviews, testing, deployment, and documentation of data engineering and integration applications
  • Maintain detailed documentation to support downstream integrations and operational continuity
  • Provide support for production issues and ensure stability of data pipelines
  • Perform Scrum Master activities to drive delivery and team coordination
  • Identify emerging technology trends and evaluate opportunities for adoption
  • Contribute to the roadmap for migrating on‑prem systems to cloud‑native architectures
  • AI & LLM usage — Leverage Databricks’ built‑in LLM and AI capabilities for problem‑solving and automation
  • Cross‑team alignment — Collaborate with architects, product owners, and business stakeholders across the enterprise
  • Delivery excellence — Drive delivery outcomes; delivery is the primary metric for success
