Through your expertise in data management and analysis, you will help provide decision-makers with the information they need to improve outcomes for Albertans.Are you passionate about turning data into meaningful insights that support evidence-informed decision-making? The Housing Division is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data and Research Analyst to join the Policy, Planning & Analytics Branch.In this role, you will play a key part in supporting Alberta's housing system by managing recurring data collection, validation, analysis, reporting, and documentation activities. Your work will help ensure that housing information used for program administration, policy development, corporate reporting, and strategic decision-making is accurate, reliable, and defensible.
Requirements
- University graduation in economics, public administration, data analytics, math, statistics, computer science, business or a related field, plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
- Experience collecting, managing, analyzing, and interpreting data from multiple sources to identify trends, issues, and opportunities.
- Experience using Python or a comparable programming language to clean, transform, match, validate, and analyse data from multiple sources.
- Preparing clear findings, recommendations, and reports to support program, policy, operational, or reporting objectives.
- Experience assessing data quality and ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of information used for analysis.
- Cleaning, validating, matching, and documenting datasets from diverse and sometimes complex data sources.
- Applying statistical, analytical, and research methodologies to answer business or policy questions.
- Developing reproducible and well-documented analytical processes and methodologies.
- Communicating analytical approaches, assumptions, limitations, and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience creating reports, dashboards, visualizations, briefing materials, and presentations that effectively communicate complex information.
- Working independently while managing multiple priorities in a changing and deadline-driven environment.

- Experience collecting, acquiring and creating data from multiple sources, including coordinating data submissions from stakeholders, extracting data from administrative databases and open-data sources, using web-scraping techniques, linking datasets, and deriving new variables or indicators.
- Experience maintaining and improving recurring reporting processes, including cleaning and validating data, documenting methodologies, automating repeatable tasks, meeting production schedules, and producing accurate and defensible analytical products.
- Experience conducting applied research with direction, including developing research questions, selecting appropriate methods, analysing quantitative or qualitative evidence, and clearly communicating findings.
Responsibilities
- Coordinating Temporary Rent Assistance Benefit (TRAB) rate updates and supporting documentation.
- Coordinating semi-annual Median Market Rent (MMR) updates and associated reporting materials.
- Preparing recurring housing caseload, client, waitlist, and operational reports.
- Supporting the development of dashboards, performance indicators, and briefing materials.
- Monitoring reporting timelines and ensuring deliverables meet established quality standards.
- Taking ownership of recurring analytical and reporting processes, including maintaining source files, methodologies, documentation, quality controls, and production schedules.
- Collecting, organizing, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative housing data.
- Supporting Affordable Housing Needs Assessment (AHNA) updates, maintenance, and data refresh activities.
- Identifying trends, emerging issues, and opportunities through data analysis.
- Preparing reports, presentations, summaries, and research products for management and program areas.
- Responding to information requests from internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Contributing evidence-based analysis to planning, program development, and evaluation activities.
- Coordinating data calls and information requests with housing providers and stakeholders.
- Tracking submissions, follow-up requirements, and issue resolution activities.
- Developing and maintaining procedures, process maps, templates, and guidance documents.
- Providing support and information to data providers regarding reporting requirements.
- Monitoring compliance with established reporting standards and timelines.
- Identifying and implementing opportunities to improve and streamline reporting processes.
- Responding to data, reporting, and analytical requests from program areas and leadership.
- Interpreting housing data and communicating methodologies, assumptions, and limitations.
- Developing ad hoc analyses and information products to support decision-making.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on data-related initiatives.
- Assisting with senior leadership briefing materials, responses, and presentations.
- Supporting knowledge sharing and documentation of housing reporting practices and data assets.
