About The Position

The Data Analytics Specialist Senior position will be expected to offer data driven intelligence to every aspect of the organization based on ever-evolving leadership demands. This position will work closely with other senior members and supervisors of the Crime Analysis & Data Analytics Division to dissect and document new data sources and software solutions to advance analytical capabilities, including establishing new standard operating procedures and peer review processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis on criminal justice, public administration, mathematics or related field
  • Minimum of seven (7) years working experience with analysis/statistical research, preferably in a law enforcement setting
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License
  • Must have strong working knowledge of connecting to data in a variety of SQL Server/Oracle databases using software such as Toad Data Point, MS Access, ArcGIS, and link analysis software to query, analyze and report on findings
  • Must have knowledge of data warehousing/data marts, ETL processes, GIS, algorithms/statistical methods, and crime analysis techniques to support business processes
  • Data analysis/research in Criminal Investigative Analysis, Tactical Crime Analysis, Intelligence Analysis.

  • Ability to handle change and be flexible in a dynamic environment
  • Experience in building collaborative partnerships both internally and externally to enhance and expand delivery of business intelligence services
  • Ability to identify critical priorities and align analytical efforts
  • Ability to coach and mentor a diverse group of data analytics and business intelligence professionals
  • Familiarity with CMPD systems such as KBCOPS, CJ Leads, and CAD
  • US Citizenship
  • maintain a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree with an emphasis on criminal justice, public administration, mathematics or related field
  • Minimum of four (4) years working experience with analysis/statistical research, preferably in a law enforcement setting

Responsibilities

  • Using crime analysis software provided, conduct research and administrative analysis to identify patterns and trends; analyze long term patterns and trends using probability studies and complex statistical analyses; develop and test hypotheses; forecast future activity
  • Perform research and trend assessments using a variety of complex data sources to generate and present findings
  • Conduct quality assessments of data, ETL processes, and dashboard/application outputs.
  • Research criminal intelligence and crime analysis industry trends and software solutions
  • Assist with system administration of various software packages used by the Crime Analysis & Data Analytics Division
  • Prepare a variety of work products, including mapping (ArcGIS) outputs, to support management and supervision decisions as well as to further investigations
  • Support problem-solving efforts by utilizing the SARA model to assist in long term crime reduction efforts and workload assessments
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests for data from all levels of the department with statistical summaries and reports
  • Compile and analyze findings, make interpretations then write comprehensive reports based on data; use these findings to help identify information gaps and recommend action steps
  • Performs other duties as assigned
