About The Position

This position is contingent upon a future opening with Gunnison. The Data Analytics Lead will manage the full lifecycle of NHANES data production, including ingestion, validation, transformation, and dataset preparation. This role directs statistical analysis efforts, guides the development of analytic datasets, statistical models, and reporting outputs using tools like SAS, R, or Stata. The Lead will establish and enforce rigorous data quality and QA/QC processes, oversee the development and maintenance of supporting documentation, and lead special analytical projects. Additionally, the position involves coordinating with the Systems Lead, supervising staff, and facilitating production meetings. The role requires technical leadership for research and analytical activities, supporting CDC staff in data interpretation, methodology validation, and the development of publications, reports, and presentations.

Requirements

  • Experience working with NHANES data or similar large-scale national health survey datasets, including familiarity with complex survey design, weighting, and longitudinal data structures.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting federal statistical programs or research organizations, including collaboration with scientists, epidemiologists, or public health analysts.
  • Experience preparing data products for public release, including managing disclosure risks, anonymization techniques, and compliance with federal data dissemination policies.
  • Familiarity with advanced statistical methodologies such as multivariate modeling, longitudinal analysis, complex sampling techniques, and variance estimation methods.
  • Experience developing automated data validation and processing pipelines, including use of scripting or workflow automation tools to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Experience producing publication-ready analytical outputs, including statistical tables, figures, and supporting narrative content for reports, data briefs, or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Familiarity with GIS and geospatial analysis techniques, particularly in support of survey design, geographic sampling, or population-level data analysis.
  • Experience working in environments requiring strict data security and confidentiality controls, including handling sensitive data and implementing QA processes for PII-protected datasets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, Public Health, or related field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the full lifecycle of NHANES data production by overseeing data ingestion, validation, transformation, and dataset preparation activities, ensuring that all data products are processed accurately and delivered on schedule.
  • Direct statistical analysis efforts by guiding the development of analytic datasets, statistical models, and reporting outputs using tools such as SAS, R, or Stata, ensuring that all analyses meet scientific and programmatic standards.
  • Establish and enforce rigorous data quality and QA/QC processes by implementing validation checks, reviewing outputs for completeness and accuracy, and approving all deliverables through a formal pre-release quality gate prior to Government submission.
  • Provide technical leadership for research and analytical activities by supporting CDC staff in interpreting data, validating methodologies, and developing publications, reports, and presentations derived from NHANES datasets.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of all supporting documentation, including data dictionaries, codebooks, metadata, and analytic specifications, ensuring that datasets are fully documented and reproducible.
  • Lead the execution of special analytical projects, including the development of linkage files, derived variables, and survey-specific analyses, ensuring that all outputs are methodologically sound and compliant with program requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with the Systems Lead to ensure alignment between data production processes and supporting platforms, enabling seamless data ingestion, processing, and delivery through automated and integrated workflows.
  • Supervise and mentor statisticians, analysts, and survey support staff by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing technical guidance to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Facilitate regular production meetings and workflow reviews to monitor progress, resolve data-related issues, and ensure that all outputs meet timelines and performance expectations.
